Alexis Russell | 10 comments This is my first foray into goodreads groups, and my first reading challenge since elementary school! I’m aiming for 50 books this year, and I’m using the popsugar reading challenge to help inspire me.

I’m the mom of 2 tiny humans and I’ve been so focused on making sure I’m raising girls who love to read that I forgot to lead by example. I’ll have a mix of audiobooks in with the print since I spend a ton of time in the car, but the main focus of my goal is to spend less time on my phone and more time enjoying a book.

Hutch (hutch316) Excellent goal Alexis! And so easy to put others ahead of ourselves and our own needs! Good for you for getting back into something you enjoy.

Jakob (4841) Good luck on your goal Alexis!

I just deleted the Facebook app and all of the games on my phone — I felt like I was picking it up constantly and hopefully this (drastic?) measure will help reduce that somewhat.

Popsugar Challenge : a story that takes place in one day

5 stars for sure! Since it’s told in reverse chronological order I already want to read it again with all the knowledge I have of the characters by the end of the book.

Alexis Russell | 10 comments #2 - The Ice Limit

I’m a sucker for all things Preston & Child, exploring their early works outside of the Pendergast series (though they all exist in the same universe which is even better). I love the mix of science and deeply written characters, highly recommended for anyone who wants to try out a techno-thriller and has a love of space.

Alexis Russell | 10 comments #3 - The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle

Great read, especially if you’re looking for a page turner. I was very surprised that it’s a debut novel, for as complicated as the story is I found it both very well written and easy to follow once you get used to the time jumping. My only complaint is the end (which it always seems to be), I didn’t like the true nature of Blackheath, but that’s probably because it wasn’t the direction I had in mind. 10/10 would read it again.

Alexis Russell | 10 comments #4 - Nine Perfect Strangers

I love Liane Moriarty, so I've been looking forward to this one for a while and it didn't disappoint. She writes great, rich characters and even with such a large cast no one felt flat or only there to serve as a plot sink. I highly recommend getting the audiobook, as the narrator who does all of her books is fantastic.

Alexis Russell | 10 comments #5 - Hate Notes

This was a fun read, as long as you’re willing to suspend disbelief when it comes to love/hate romantic relationships. The sexual tension is fantastically written, and it all pays off in the end (like any good romance).

Alexis Russell | 10 comments #6 - Ready Player One

This is one of my favorite audiobooks, and one I’ve come back to time and time again when I just want something familiar. Love the nerd culture, love the hunt, probably one of my top 10 all time.

Popsugar Reading Challenge : A book revolving around a puzzle or game

Alexis Russell | 10 comments #7 - The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue

This one gets all the bonus points for a bisexual main character, and one who’s certain about it, even if they didn’t have the language to express it during the time period. Started off a little slow, but definitely got page turning within the first 100 pages.
