It's been on my list for some time now. Sooner or later... I heard great things.

Probably the best book I read in 2016, which is saying something since I also read Experimental Film, The Ballad of Black Tom, Ghost Summer: Stories, A Feast of Sorrows, and The Midwich Cuckoos that year. I will consider rereading it in a few years, once I'm a bit further from that initial reading.

Char | 17472 comments I'm reading Cricket Hunters. It's my first book by Jeremy Hepler. For the most part, I'm enjoying it so far.

I finished listening to The King of Plagues (Joe Ledger, #3) by Jonathan Maberry and now I'm starting Wanderers by Chuck Wendig by Chuck Wendig.

Christopher Conlon (goodreadscomchristopherconlon) | 531 comments I’m revisiting some vintage Robert Bloch with his collection Midnight Pleasures and am just about to start Terror, an obscure work that is one of only a couple of Bloch novels I’ve never read.

I really liked the Wendig book.

I questioned if that book would live up to the hype, and after reading it I made a friend read it too before returning it to the library. It was the beginning of Paul Tremblay becoming one of my absolute favorite authors.

Christopher Conlon (goodreadscomchristopherconlon) | 531 comments In addition to The Red Brain: Great Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos I’m now re-reading Strange Eons by Robert Bloch in its original Whispers Press edition, which I’ve owned since I was in high school (c. 1978). It’s a Cthulhu Mythos novel which I actually like much more now than I did then, mostly because I’m far more familiar with Lovecraft now.

Re: The Hot Zone: I read that book back in the 90's. I wonder what has made it re-surge in popularity lately?

I loved The Mailman when I read it a couple of decades ago, L. Smashing. Hope you like it.

Currently reading: Elizabeth by Ken Greenhall

To be honest, I'm having a tough time getting into it. I am about half way through and am just not connecting...If that makes sense? Still, it is an interesting premise and I will see it through to the end. Hopefully, my opinion changes!

RE: The Hot Zone - interestingly enough this happened just outside my back door. I was too young to understand what was happening though.

Randy Money | 432 comments Rob wrote: "Re: The Hot Zone: I read that book back in the 90's. I wonder what has made it re-surge in popularity lately?"

There was a mini-series based on it on the National Geographic network starring Julianna Margulies, Topher Grace, Liam Cunningham and James D'Arcy. I haven't read the book but on its own the mini-series was successfully disturbing. I imagine the book spiked in sales and readers after that.

There was a movie based on the book called Outbreak that came out about 15 years ago. I hope the Nat Geo series was better than the movie......

message 725: by Randy (new)

Randy Money | 432 comments I vaguely remember it, but I'd say the mini-series was better if only because it didn't have to compress the story as much.

message 726: by Allie (new)

Allie (meows_and_migraines) Finished The Mailman (Sadly didn't enjoy it, had a hard time suspending disbelief). Now moving on to The Hungry Ones I really enjoyed the first in the series and am looking forward to this one.

You mean me? Well, there could always be more Arya and it sucks that the sun will explode before Martin continues the series, but otherwise it's really good. The plot thickens, and I can't read it fast enough.

Yes, I couldn't put the series down either. I sometimes think I rushed through them too fast thinking he would have the books done before the TV series.

Char | 17472 comments A Cosmology of Monsters by Shaun Hamill . It has a nice blurb from Stephen King on the front cover, but I've been burned by those blurbs before. I love the cover though and it started off fairly interesting.

LOL. When I typed this one into the 'What are you currently reading bar?" That one came up and I didn't even notice it was a different title until I really looked at the cover and thought, "wait a minute....

Christopher Conlon (goodreadscomchristopherconlon) | 531 comments The House of Dr. Edwardes by Francis Beeding—basis for the Hitchcock movie “Spellbound.” I got this for free on my Kindle at some point years ago and I’m finally getting around to reading it. Fun Gothic story so far.

The unnecessary sex and body part references were making me laugh at first, now they're just getting in the way. Thankfully the story is pretty interesting, otherwise it'd be a big DNF by now
