I love this series. You've got a way to go to catch up with it though and lots of good reading.

The only book I have liked is Patient Zero. Not certain if I will continue the series. I am really not a fan of the (view spoiler) If any of the other books go back to a supernatural angle or are anything like PZ, then I would give those a shot.

Maberry did a short story where Joe Ledger goes to Pine Deep and meets up with Crow and Mike.

I remember thinking it was okay, but I much would have preferred it if Maberry showed Crow and Mike a bit more love because IMO, the Pine Deep trilogy is the pinnacle of his career.
He also wrote some decent short stories about a werewolf PI who I wish he would something more substantial with. Still worth a look though.

Thanks, I plan on trying Pine Deep at some point.

The Homecoming by Andrew Pyper
My third Pyper book in the last few weeks, and thus far this one is as compelling as the last two.

Have you read The Demonologist? I read that a few years ago. Not bad, How about The Trade Mission: A Novel of Psychological Terror? I have that one on the shelf in front of me but I haven't read it yet. It is Psychological Horror, which I really like, so I hope it's a good one.

I liked The Demonologist. Haven't read Trade Mission.
The Damned was good. Just finished Homecoming and it was very good, and quite a different kind of read. For my money thought, I think his best books are The Killing Circle, The Guardians and Lost Girls. The Only Child was a huge disappointment and the only thing of his I've read that I didn't like.

Randy Money | 432 comments Finished Mapping the Interior by Stephen Graham Jones, a really touching and disturbing novella. The link is to a Tor edition but I read it in The Year’s Best Dark Fantasy & Horror 2018 Edition along with "Exceeding Bitter" by Kaaron Warren and, currently, "Welcome to Your Authentic Indian Experience (TM)" by Rebecca Roanhorse. I may read a few more before going on to a novel.

Robert Kratky (bolorkay) | 342 comments Due to the release of the movie, "Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark". I had high hopes for this collection but this is developing into somewhat of "snooze fest" along with the film which I saw yesterday. It has become increasingly obvious that I am not the target audience for this collection but I usually find something to "sink my teeth into" with YA fiction...not the case here.

I just started Joseph Lallo's A Traitor in the Shadows. It is the first book of his new series. It's not horror, but he is one of my favorite indie writers so of course I had to give this one a go.

Verrrry unique. Loving it so far. It's one of those books that is very short, but the writing is so "dense". it still takes a while to fully digest. For me, anyway.....

That was a great book. It requires some patience, and it's definitely a lot of weird fiction mixed with horror/thriller, but it's unlike anything else out there.

I think it's better then expected. I saw a lot of mixed reviews on it so I was hesitant to try it but I'm glad I did.

Are you of the opinion that a lot of people expected "Bird Box 2" from Malerman....and that's why they're disappointed with his other books? I'm currently reading Unbury Carol, and I like it a lot...even though it's not horror and nothing like Bird Box....

Maybe? I dunno. I've read three of his books and they were all very different animals. Malerman definitely doesn't stick to one style of writing. For Black Mad Wheel, the story can take some patience to read because it's a slow-burn, slow build up before it really starts taking shape, and it's not straight up horror, but falls more in the "Weird Fiction" category of stories.

For people who really want Bird Box 2, well, it comes out in October: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
