What are you reading in January 2019?
I'm hoping to finish up Fire & Blood by Tuesday next because that's when Alliance Rising: The Hinder Stars I, C.J. Cherryh's first new Alliance/Union novel in, well, I guess it's only been 10 years since Regenesis (which I also haven't read, come to think of it), but I'm very excited; and I'm guessing this will lead into a lengthy Alliance/Union reread for me.
I seem to have signed up to a ton of books this month, I've got no chance but at least The Ember Blade will be audio. I've just started Blackdog.
I think I'll end the month with The Mad Apprentice and The Palace of Glass and maybe The Time of Contempt.
Continuing my re-read of Matthew Reilly (most are not fantasy but are still great) Currently on Area 7 which will be the 7th of his works I am up to, only 7 more to go :P (I am starting to miss fantasy but when I commit to something I like to stick with it)
Kicked off New Year's Day with Dreamfall by Joan D. Vinge. Because I don't usually do serial fiction, it's taken near twenty years to read the whole Psion trilogy.
As a followup, I've got Hotel Transylvania by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro. I'd known about the Saint-Germain novels for years but never really dug into them until just recently. I'd compare them to A Song of Ice and Fire in terms of scope but without all the high seriousness.

I'm reading:
- Super Powereds: Year 2 in audio, as part of my bi-weekly super-long BR; it's light, fun and the spread-out schedule allows me to speculate and theorize like a madwoman after each reading session :p
- Malazan #1, both in print & audio, suuuuuper slowly. I was told so many times that this series is very complex that I want to take my time; no more than a chapter a day. The writing is exquisite (although not the easiest to read for a non-native)
- Firelight in ebook: my "brain-off" fun PNR for the evening;
- Spinning Silver in audio: the BOTM! :D

Finished Fire & Blood, so started Weirdbook 31 to tide me over for a few days as I wait for Alliance Rising: The Hinder Stars I.
Just read Lost Soul. It was a bit lightweight and quite short but not a bad way to pass an hour or so if you enjoy Dresden Files and urban fantasy generally. OH has them on his kindle so I will probably read the rest of them while I wait for Skyward to appear from the library.
I just keep drifting away from my book and watching tv or daydreaming! I don’t want to abandon it but don’t think in the right frame for it.

I guess that's why your into audiobooks right now.

Finished Weirdbook 31, read Beneath the Sugar Sky, and will be starting Alliance Rising: The Hinder Stars I pretty much as soon as it appears on my Kindle, which I hope will be in another 90 minutes or so.
FinishedThe Slow Regard of Silent Things One of the strangest books i've read. If you haven't read it - its nothing like you expect - its barely a story! I enjoyed it though, I love Auri. 4 stars.Next up is Muse of Nightmares
I completely failed my 2018 challenge. I over-committed and then burned myself out and didn't feel like reading anything at all. So this year I'm dialing it back again, but now I find myself paralyzed with indecision. So I'm starting with what's right in front of me: the FBC forum posts :)
So far I've read Warhost of Vastmark, Child of Prophecy and Spinning Silver. Now I'm reading Sheepfarmer's Daughter.
Just finished The Son of Summer Stars, the last book of the Firebringer trilogy. Pretty good trilogy. It was well written with a fascinating unicorn culture. And now I'm starting In an Absent Dream.
Finished Spinning Silver and Where the Crawdads Sing. Halfway into Theft of Swords (#1-2 of the Ryria Revelations), the author was recommended to me here and am enjoying the story very much.

Now I set no goals and basically fly by the seat of my pants.

As soon as I have a large list of planned books, I totally go off plan. I can’t help it. I’m a rebel.
I’m about a third into Blackdog, I think but it’s having a holiday. I’ve read Raksura shorts by Martha Wells. I’d forgotten how awe-inspiring these were. The group read Cloud Roads years ago. 2013 I think. I’m intending to read the new books 4 & 5.
I’ve started Beneath a Sugar Sky by Seanan MaGuire. Is that how it’s spelled??
Audio: I had the libraries last Joe Picket. A ranger type character with guns and jeeps and bad hunters. I love them. I love the narrator too. I have no idea why as they just aren’t my type of book! Now I’m halfway through Ember Blade which is brilliant.

Planning is just a waste of time for me & I wind up with a bunch of unread books as something else comes along to interest me more. So now I just read what I want when I want. Much more enjoyable & no stress. I stress enough about work reading. In the computer field, I have to read articles & tech docs constantly to manage security & keep the network working. That's stress enough.

I found that if I don't have at least a vague reading plan, I tend to stare at my shelves in panic, not knowing what to read. What I'm doing this days is that I make a 'TBR-priority' list each month of the books I'm the most eager to read, and pick my reads among that. I still have a large choice so I can usually pick something that fits my mood :)

I was signing up to too many buddy reads it was making me twitch.
I've started Spinning Silver, good so far :)

Janette wrote: "I have just picked up Skywards from the library so that’s this weekend sorted."Enjoy! That was probably my favorite novel of 2018.
So finally, after years of waiting, Audible Australia has added Malazan series. Very excited to start that as soon as I finish my Matthew Reilly re-read. (Just over halfway through)
Finished Alliance Rising: The Hinder Stars I, which was a great return to Union/Alliance, and am continuing onward with Heavy Time.
Helen wrote: "Oh. That would be a whole new way to do Malazan."Sadly, a neck injury mean's I can only read physical books (looking down) for about 30 minutes before I start getting a migraine. So audible is a god send for me. :)
I’m finding the huge fantasy bricks more annoying to hold the longer I have my kindle. They’re so heavy.

Amen sister.

Preach it!
Tnkw01 wrote: "Finished Sheepfarmer's Daughter. It was ok. I started The Mad Apprentice and The Sundering Star."Oh man I loved sheepfarmer's daughter...sorry it didn't work for you.
It’s Mike’s favourite! I read the set together and I liked them :)
Finished Ember Blade, struggling to find my next audio at the library.

I loved the Paks character but I found the writing style a bit tedious at times.

Currently listening to Ship of Destiny during my commute, and Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell while at work. Going to try reading World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War this weekend as I have a long car trip ahead of me!
I finished Empire of Ivory. Liked the story to this one. It did slow down at one point, but picked up at the very end. Heavy consequences there.I'm now starting the massive Fire & Blood. Really enjoying it so far.
Just started A Discovery of Witches which was recommended by a friend. Enjoying it more than I thought I would as I tend to avoid witch/vampire love stories.
