Jo Elliott | 1839 comments Oh yay, so glad you enjoyed Our Dark Duet Kay! Lots of reading is what bank holidays are for :)

Most definitely Jo. Hope you've enjoyed your bank holiday too :)

message 55: by Jo (new)

Jo Elliott | 1839 comments Thanks! Honestly Bank Holidays at Uni don't really feel any different to any other day, I'm always done with classes by this point anyway, so it's pretty much just like any other day.

I ended up putting Smoke in the Sun (Flame in the Mist, #2) by Renée Ahdieh down as I can't remember very much from book 1. I'm intending to pick it back up when I have time to re-read.

I'm almost done with The Kingdom of Copper (The Daevabad Trilogy, #2) by S.A. Chakraborty

I probably won't get much time to read over the coming weeks to be honest as I'm an examiner for one of the A Level Psychology papers so I'm gonna be crazy busy with that for the next few weeks. We'll see how much reading I can fit in in addition to it.

Updated my challenges, especially my YALC challenge. These are the books I'm aiming to read before I got to the con at the end of July. I'm not sure how many I'll manage to get through as work is going to be insane for the next 3-4 weeks.

Wow Kayleigh, that is a lot to get through before YALC! I thankfully don't have as much to try and read this year, because most of the authors I want to see, I've read their books already/already had them signed. I'd like to read a Schwab, though I already have all of hers signed, just because I love her books and Derek Landy's new book which comes out on Thursday before I go, but I think that's about it. Oh I also will probably read the upcoming issues of Schwab's comics before I go so I have something for her to sign, but they don't take long to read at all!

Kay!! So many pretty books!

The Darkest Bloom sounds really interesting. Viper too. I also still want to read Priory of the Orange Tree.

Let us know how they are and which ones are worth me trying to find!!

My marking is almost done so I should be back to reading really soon. In the meantime I have started a new book but I'm only a few chapters in. I'm reading Call It What You Want by Brigid Kemmerer I absolutely adore Brigid's books

And yippee for almost being done all that marking

I've just started We are Blood and Thunder by Kesia Lupo

I’m having such a hard time reading at the moment. I’m about 120 pages into We are Blood and Thunder by Kesia Lupo and although I find the premise really interesting I have no motivation to pick it up and continue. I just can’t seem to get into anything at the minute.

message 68: by [deleted user] (new)

I find that happens to me after finishing a really good book. :/

I wasn't that keen on We Are Blood and Thunder either Kayleigh. It doesn't get much better, sadly.

Put and down and try something else for now and maybe go back to it later? Or reread an old favourite?

My sentiments exactly! I really only finished it because it was a Netgalley book.

Finished The Last Namsara (Iskari, #1) by Kristen Ciccarelli and I absolutely loved it. This was such a great fantasy and I can't wait to read more of this series.

Now I'm starting the biggest book on my shelf... The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

I've finished reading The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon and I enjoyed it. I gave it 3 stars. It was a good fantasy but I felt a bit let down by the ending. Considering it's such a huge book the ending seemed rushed and anticlimactic and some of the characters endings seemed unfinished.

I've also finished reading The King (A Wicked Trilogy #3.6) by Jennifer L. Armentrout which I absolutely loved... naturally. Afterall it is JLA.

Up next I'm planning on reading On the Other Side by Carrie Hope Fletcher

message 78: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 6459 comments Mod
That doesnt make me want to rush out and read Priory. Thanks for saving me from a huge book Kay! You got through it pretty quick though!

message 79: by Kayleigh {K-Books}, YA Fantasy Fan (new)

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) | 2304 comments Mod
I did. It was enjoyable but I was left feeling a bit deflated and I still have loads of questions... I don't feel like it was wrapped up very well and considering it was over 800 pages there was plenty of time to do that.

message 80: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 6459 comments Mod
That is disappointing. Especially if its going to be a standalone. To be that long and leave so much unanswered... I think I'll pass

Finished On the Other Side by Carrie Hope Fletcher and I absolutely loved it. Finished it in a day. It was like contemporary but with a touch of magic and I adored it. It kind of reminded me of Cecelia Ahern’s early work which I love. I also read the novella that comes after the book and it was a lovely conclusion. Winters' Snow by Carrie Hope Fletcher

message 82: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 6459 comments Mod
Glad you loved it Kay! It does look like a good contemporary novel

message 83: by Kayleigh {K-Books}, YA Fantasy Fan (new)

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) | 2304 comments Mod
I'm a bit hit or miss with contemporary but I loved this one. I have Carrie's other two books which sound amazing so I'm going to read her others soon. I can't wait to meet her next week at YALC. She's an actress in musicals as well and I saw her last year and I just love her. She's so fantastic.

Up next: The Everlasting Rose (The Belles, #2) by Dhonielle Clayton

I've finished The Everlasting Rose (The Belles, #2) by Dhonielle Clayton which I gave 4 stars. It wasn't as good as the first book but I enjoyed it. I'm really surprised that there's going to be a third book as to me if felt like an ending.

message 87: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 6459 comments Mod
That is strange then Kay. Hopefully the third one ends up being a good continuation anyway when it comes out

message 88: by Kayleigh {K-Books}, YA Fantasy Fan (new)

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) | 2304 comments Mod
I’ll still definitely read the third one.

I read Oh My Gods by Alexandra Sheppard today. The entire thing in a day. It was difficult to put down. It was light and funny. I highly recommend it. Think contemporary romance but the main characters family are the Greek Gods. Such a fun read.

Anyway, I'm currently reading A Heart So Fierce and Broken (Cursebreakers, #2) by Brigid Kemmerer

I don't blame you there Kay. I would've too!

I finished A Heart So Fierce and Broken (Cursebreakers, #2) by Brigid Kemmerer and I loved it so so so much. It was brilliant and perfect. Even better than the first book.

I've also finished Before Jamaica Lane (On Dublin Street, #3) by Samantha Young Aurora Rising (The Aurora Cycle, #1) by Jay Kristoff Deadly Cool (Deadly Cool, #1) by Gemma Halliday and Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) by Amie Kaufman all were 5 stars except for Deadly Cool which I gave 3 stars as it was super predictable.

I'm currently reading: The Beautiful (The Beautiful, #1) by Renée Ahdieh

I’ve finished The Beautiful (The Beautiful, #1) by Renée Ahdieh which I absolutely loved. I was skeptical about a new ya vampire book but it was brilliant and not at all what I was expecting.

Also finished The Burning Shadow (Origin, #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout which was amazing. I can’t wait for book 3.

I’m currently reading One Dark Throne (Three Dark Crowns, #2) by Kendare Blake and listening to The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris on audio.

message 97: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 6459 comments Mod
Hmmm... Glad you loved The Beautiful. I wasn't even considering ever reading that one because YA Vampires were so overdone, but now I am curious

message 98: by Liliana, YA Paranormal Lover (new)

Liliana (lililostinabook) | 2895 comments Mod
I agree! I don't read vampire stuff anymore because I'm just over it. It's been YEARS since I last read a book that centered around vampires! But I'm glad you enjoyed that one Kay! It sounds interesting!

message 99: by Kayleigh {K-Books}, YA Fantasy Fan (new)

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) | 2304 comments Mod
I agree with both of you it was so overdone but it’s not your typical YA vampire romance book. It’s actually nothing like them. Think like a murder mystery, hunting a serial killer but there just so happens to be vampires in the story. That’s more what it’s like.
