What Are You Reading? - 2019
It sounds interesting! Is it scary? I do like a bit of mystery, but I don't like books that are so suspenseful or scary that they make me lose sleep ;-)

A tip for when you start it - try and read as much as you can in one sitting to keep track of all that's going on. :-
Peggy wrote: "It sounds interesting! Is it scary? Here’s an article on it: https://www.theguardian.com/books/201...
Lilisa wrote: "Lisa wrote: "Lilisa wrote: "Lisa wrote: "Lilisa wrote: "Reading Dancer, Birdsong, and The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle - all fit the yearly challenge :-)..."Thanks for the tip! I will make sure to do that.
I finished Royal Assassin. It's my first 5 star of the year. I will start The Labyrinth of the Spirits tomorrow. I think I'm a little late for the buddy read.
Janice wrote: "I finished Royal Assassin. It's my first 5 star of the year. "Maybe I should have joined in after all then!
Read it soon Sarah, and join us for book 3 :)Margo, I wanted to do that too! I had only 40 pages to go, but I was soooo tired. I figured it would be better to save it and read it properly the next day, then to read it half asleep or rush through it to get to bed. I'm working from home today so I can't really read it until 5pm, but the book is tempting me to pick it up!
I finished Melmoth which I read for the yearly challenge. Here is my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I started Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine for the movie challenge. I'm looking forward to this one!
I'm starting The Binding
which is one of the releases that I am the most excited for this year. It has had a big PR campaign here in the UK and is getting loads of raves on social media. I'm also using it for the yearly challenge.
Kristie wrote: "Which task are you reading it for, Peggy?"I'm not sure.. it fitted a few, but I think for me it worked best for the Scottish setting / Scottish author task.

Thanks. I'm interested in that one, but hadn't fit it in anywhere. I'll have to check it out, although the Scottish task might be a good place for me too.
It would also work for debut book of an author and easier tasks like published after 2000 or set in 2000s (probably)
If you liked "Where's Wally" and the tiny details in the Richard Scarry children's books, or those great little cartoon tourist maps with all the landmarks, I bet you'd enjoy Egypt Magnified: With a 3x Magnifying Glass. History made fun. Just delightful!

I've started Into the Water for the yearly challenge task set near a river or creek. So far, it's jumping aorund from person to person quite a bit, and I'm not sure how I like that, but we'll see. Also, James, who is not typically a reader except for newspapers, has agreed to read several books together this year. He got to pick the first one and chose True Story: Murder, Memoir, Mea Culpa. I was a little put off when, within the first couple of pages, the author tells us he was fired from the New York Times Magazine for passing a story off as true when some parts of it were not. We've decided to continue with it, though; and I'm really excited about reading it together and being able to discuss it. He's also been reading more on his own. I'm not sure if he fell and hit his head, or was abducted by aliens, or what; but I'll take it. LOL
Aussie author Peggy Frew has a new novel out soon, Islands, and the cover says it all. Individually or grouped, we're islands (as is one of the settings, Phillip Island).

Just started a re-read of 'Salem's Lot This edition has some really dark / creepy / black and white illustrations! How cool is that?!?Do you remember when a book with just a few illustrations was a real challenge? I remember a childhod book I really wanted to read, with soooo few pictures that I doubted I'd ever manage to read the gap from one to the next.. Well I did... and didn't look back!
So here I am a 'few' years down the line (ahem). I've started a re-read of the illustrated and extended version of 'Salem's Lot! Find myself thinking "Wow! Illustrations!!" whilst repeating the childhood habit of looking ahead to see the pictures first (I AM trying to fight the urge! Honest!)
Feel like I've achieved the cycle!
.... Just saying!!
I'm going to sooo enjoy this...
Finished and enjoyed Circle of Friends

I remember the first time that happened to me. It was with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. :)

I need to go to the little library around the corner tomorrow to drop off 10 books too, if it's cooler. No room!
I've picked up All Our Names as I need to make a dint in my random country challenge. This one is for Uganda. Will have to see how it fits into the Movie Challenge. As I have three Africian countries to visit on this other challenge, I need to be smart with these ones.
Margo wrote: "Haha! I had to dump a load of books to make room for the never ending flow LOL"Every now and again I think I need to dump a bunch of books from my wishlist, but it's a rather formidable task.
I'm stilll reading Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine but the paperback didn't fit in my bag anymore this morning, so I've also started Kindred on my ereader. A bit early for the group read, but I want to do both group reads and the challenge and February is short, so I thought I'd give myself a head start :)
February is so short and my February reading list so long... Is there such a thing as a book TARDIS? Think I need one.
Annerlee wrote: "February is so short and my February reading list so long... Is there such a thing as a book TARDIS? Think I need one."If it does exist I want one Annerlee! If it doesn't exist it needs to be in invented!!

NAOOOWW!!!
I finished 44 Scotland Street for my January challenge read. I feel like odd man out because most of my friends on GR's rated it 4 stars. I only gave it 1. I remember reading The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency in my pre-Goodreads days and being underwhelmed by it. I guess he's not the author for me.I downloaded The Dreamers and will start reading it tonight. It's a 2019 release and will fit my Movie Mania challenge.

I spent some time last week doing this. I looked at books with less than 3.5 stars and those that had been on my wishlist the longest. I got rid of a hundred or so.

Sounds great Annerlee. The last illustrated book i read was A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and remember really liking their addition.

I should do that too. A hundred is impressive!

Good for you Sarah! My problem is that my TBR is books I own. I did a big cull last year and got rid of many impulse buys that i will never read but alas, it is growing again!

I hope you will enjoy The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. It is a great concept and very different from the norm.
