What Are You Reading? - 2019

I am switching to A Pocketful of Crows while I drink a cup of coffee and calm down.

Mary Robinette Kowal is well known for reading the Rosemary and Rue series and many other works. She is multi-talented!

I bought this recently so I'm pleased to hear you're enjoying it!

I wouldn't have seen it on offer only for your post Sarah!

My mum loves thrillers and mysteries and we all share an audible Library. That means that I end up with a lot of books, some I leave but I can't resist a decent book hence my massive TBR! IT is handy for challenges though!

I have now started The Trespasser

How many hours was the audiobook? Just curious.

Miles Off Course by Aussie author Sulari Gentill is #3 and the best so far.

I'm at 17% and so far I'm still in the first chapter. I'm wondering if this book is going to have any chapters. I went ahead abut 10 Kindle pages and still didn't see one. I'm definitely beginning a new section of the book, so I'm thinking there may not be any. I find that interesting.

The story summary indicates this is a "prize winning-novel", but it does not say what prize. Are you reading an advanced copy? The expected publication date says November 2019.

The book won the Prix du roman de l‘Océan Indien - it was originally published in French. Yes, I'm reading an advance copy of the English translation scheduled for publication this November.

I like the story so far, it just wasn't what I was expecting when I started. The descriptions of Wesley's behavior are very cute. Though, I have to admit after hearing what the first few months were like, I wouldn't want to be an owlet mom.

Yes it was. I just mentioned it actually over in the "animals on the cover" thread!

It was definitely brutal! A very dark read.

I've finished all my audiobooks listed for September. The oldest audiobook on my tbr is Succubus Blues so I think I will read it. Hopefully I can slot it into the movie mania challenge.

How m..."
23 and a half hours Cherie. I would just fit it in to a short toppler LOL It didn't feel like a long book though and I was sad to finish.

I enjoy some classics but, for me, Kipling is the wrong author! He is a pompous colonial.
I'm listening to The Trespasser. It is good but I feel like many of the later books in the Dublin Murder sqad could have used a good edit.

Sounds like you're off to a great start, Shirley! The Chain is one I'd like to read, too.

The Dictionary of Difficult Words: With more than 400 perplexing words to test your wits! by Jane Solomon has a few that tested me, and I'm pretty wordy.

My first book set in Madagascar with Return to the Enchanted Island: A Novel. Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

It's not what I expected - the narrative is going in an entirely different direction. I'm hooked.

I usually enjoy Harris and I am interested to see reactions to this one before I jump on board!
I am reading A Pocketful of Crows

I am out and about today so I will start my audiobook

Aussie investigative reporter Steve Cannane wrote a blistering exposé, and every allegation is footnoted. Fair Game: The Incredible Untold Story of Scientology in Australia is, indeed, incredible.

Like Margo, I have enjoyed most all Robert Harris' books I've read. This sounds very different. Interested to hear what you think.

Maybe it's a "borrow from the library book" so you won't have buyer's remorse if you don't like it and quit! 😂
