I'm in the minority on Thunderhead. I just found it slow and frustrating. But I will still read the last book when it comes out!

Finished listening to the narration was fabulous. I enjoyed it mostly. Thought the end was a bit of a let down.
But here are my thoughts as promised (view spoiler)[ loved, the world of Caraval and the idea behind it, even if I would like more about how the magic works. The imagery of what colour emotions and thoughts are, it made it easier to be inside Scarlett's world and see what was happening. I loved the narration, was well done and added to the story. Another thing was determining what was actually real and what was truly just the game. I enjoyed the surprises thrown in there.

What was missing was more about the world in general. I know very little about the place Tella and Scarlett were so eager to leave. Other than their terrible father that is. Also more to Tella and Scarlett's relationship. I can understand the protectiveness of a big sister and all that but at moments it felt a little forced

As for the ending, If no players can actually die during Caraval it cheapened the moments. At the same time, if they were killing off both Julien and Tella I wasn't going to be happy either. Also Donatella's reaction to her death in general just wasn't deep enough. Nor was how easily Scarlett forgave everyone. I found this all lessened the emotions of the rest of the story. I finally finished it was significantly weaker than book 1. Disappointed but Ill likely still read book 3 at some point.

Starting which seems like such a perfect read for the season. I have high hopes.
