YA maybe Sci-Fi, Genetically modified teenagers, possibly published in 1990’s

I read this book in possibly the 90’ maybe early 2000’s. Teenagers were in some sort of special school and slowly started realizing they were becoming scientifically modified. It was set in modern day and I vaguely remember a teenager taken to the “special school” and not allowed to visit his home again.

It was so many years ago I can’t remember the specifics of their modification. But I do remember that the parents of the main character didn’t know that they were sending their son to this type of place. They were unaware of the modifications being done. The kids at the facility rebelled together to escape the facility and/or destroy it.

It’s not Oryx and Crake. The book I’m looking for took place in a modern facility that was supposed to be a type of school but come to find out some type of modification and experimenting was going on with the students there.
