The girl was a red-head, and had managed to make one friend who was a male. Mom disappears one day leaving only a note. She was a spy and left her daughter to keep her safe. The guy was also someone she had sent to protect her. I don't know exactly what genre, I'd imagine it was a thriller, but it was young adult fiction. Read it about 4-6 years ago (as of Dec. 2018). When using google a suggestion called "The Code: Spy X" comes up, but it's not correct.
