I'm not sure. here we call socks that go over the knee "overknee socks" but I'm not sure if this really is a word you can use in English that way. If yes, I could take it with this cover

The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides

message 1825: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 1573 comments It is a reread for me, Kate Reading is one of my favorite narrators. I find it interesting how different people like/dislike certain narrators. I know she is one you don’t care for and you like Davina Porter and she is the only narrator I cannot listen too.

message 1826: by Jan, Moderator (last edited Mar 04, 2021 04:35PM) (new)

Jan | 21026 comments It is weird Jillian. I'm way more on the picky side with my narrators. I can only listen to a couple American women narrators which really narrows the field. And it sounds like I've mention by problem with Reading before. This year I'm doing a lot more listening and I am finding that Davina Porter is good in some things and not so good in others. Though I did love her narration of The Mists of Avalon which I listened to at the end of 2020.

message 1827: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 1573 comments I tend to speed up my books so that causes some distortion. I tend to find Scott Brick to be a really slow narrator. Two years ago I listened to 2 books in a series narrated by him that was a vampire/dystopian genre. This year I’m trying to listen to Alexander Hamilton which is narrated by him but this one it seems like he is reading faster or something because I need to listen to it at normal speed. I have had to take a break because I keep expecting it to be the vampire books.

message 1828: by Jan, Moderator (new)

Jan | 21026 comments LOL...he's another one I can't listen to! Told you I'm really picky.

message 1829: by Jan, Moderator (new)

Jan | 21026 comments And I understand about connecting a narrator with a book. I listened to Les Miserables and cannot listen to George Guidall narrate anything else now. It just doesn't connect.

message 1830: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 1573 comments Scott Brick is definitely not one of my favorites. If I would have know he was the narrator, I would have waited for the ebook from the library. But, I’m already committed lol

finished my overknee socks. I liked this book a lot, previously I did only know the movie (and had/have no real memory of it other than Kirsten Dunst) I do not know why it took me so long to read the book itself..

message 1846: by Jan, Moderator (new)

Jan | 21026 comments Thanks for the update Barb & Patrizia!!

Barb - I read Firestorm for the Obstacle Course challenge which needed like 5 fire books. I had finished two really good ones and then read it and it was either too much at one time or wasn't quite as good as the others. I also seem to remember it being a little depressing. But I'm glad you really enjoyed it...lol.
