There's plenty to choose from here! Some are more surprising than others. Like Arrival with Amy Adams was based on a short story? Yup, it sure was. What will you choose?

Annalisa | 20 comments I want to read the books that inspired the show Dirk Gently Hollistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams. Im so sad the show was cancelled but then I realized there were books and am keeping the stories longer by reading now. So far it's so different from the show that it's all new and delightful. I am only half way through one. I also want to finish the books that inspired Patrick Melrose, a showtime series. Benedict Cumberbatch is incredible in the show. The writing is so good in book 1 but its hard to read because it revolves around a man dealing with trauma from childhood sexual abuse and the first book at least went into the mind of the abuser which was a very emotionally hard place to go. The show did not go that far so reading the book after was a bit unexpected. I'm debating my ability to handle it but it is very well written.

Andrea O | 27 comments Those both sound so good, but really intense.

I haven't decided about this one. The problem I find is that once I watch a story, I don't want to read the book. I'll have to find a book whose story I haven't seen yet.

Annalisa | 20 comments I understand. I dont always like repeating either. Only certain cases like wanting more information or if the book is different or something. I havent watched Bird Box yet but am considering reading that book instead.

Danielle (librarian19) | 45 comments I find that if I watch the movie or tv show first, I'm more inclined to read the book. I've been toying with Crazy Rich Asians as mine. Or The Passage which will start on tv soon.

Shannon (libraryshann) | 15 comments I'm going to read The Haunting of Hill House. It sounds like it will be different enough from the show so I'm interested to see what it's like. I might have to read Bird Box too!

Andrea O | 27 comments Oof, those books are too spooky for me (BIG scaredy cat over here). I read Anna Dressed in Blood a while ago and that was enough.

Anne (annemazing) | 10 comments I read I Capture the Castle because someone suggested it at the meeting and I found out after I read it they made it into a movie! It worked out for me.

I super loved the first 2/3s of the book. Very charming, very English. Then it took a weird, silly turn that was okay, but just seemed a little goofy for the tone of the earlier parts of the book. We watched the movie after too, which I hated.

Annalisa | 20 comments I'm also considering Beautiful Boy by David Sheff. This book is also a best seller and due to the topic of substance abuse I'd say a current event book too.

Elizabeth | 3 comments I'm currently reading The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. It is a YA book that was turned into a movie this summer. I like it a lot and being a private high school teacher, really resonates with me as well. Interesting story for what is going on in our world and country right now.

I'm LOLing at "goofy"! I'm much too afraid to watch the movie for fear of also hating it after loving the book so much.

Caren | 18 comments I read Shadows of the Workhouse one of the memoirs of Jennifer Worth that inspired "Call the Midwife." Then I watched "Killing Eve" so I had to read Codename Villanelle I would say I got both ends of the spectrum with those two.

Danielle (librarian19) | 45 comments I think this is the one category i didn't do this year. Just ran out of time. oh well - definitely some interesting picks.
