Sarah | 2 comments So I read this book in high school, circa 2014-2015. It was written by a male writer and the cover was white with a picture of a cd disc on it. The book was definitely published within the 21st century. It was written in a way that was supposed to be funny. It had 3 plotlines (spoilers ahead):

1. Bored teenagers who rebel against being marketed to (such as cigarettes, candy, soda). One was a baseball player I think. I also remember they would harrass the owner of a gas station outside of school and the author sometimes explored his point of view too. It might’ve been that theyre rebellion was aimed at the owner of the gas station. I’m also pretty sure the gas station owner was a bit of a stereotype: Arab/Indian, maybe didnt speak much English. Pretty sure he hated the teenagers that would come in too.
2. A depressed high school teacher who eventually gets involved with the high schoolers who are rebelling. He later gets involved in local politics to represent the high schoolers.
3. This plotline I remember the most about. This woman is the assistant to someone who is creating a MTV style station that plays music. I think the station was called RRR with one of the R’s being backwards and two of the R’s stood for rock and revolution. The tv station ends up becoming super popular but basically goes down the same path as the real MTV and becomes filled with reality based shows; except its core audience is teenage males so its all “bro humor”, and it also becomes inauthentic and corporate, which also reflects the executive she works for as well as her co-workers (she’s pretty much the only woman at the company) and she becomes disillusioned. Wanting to do something more meaningful, she finds out about the teenagers rebelling and their supportive teacher and provides news coverage on the MTV-style station, since she believes what could be more interesting to teenagers than showing what actual teenagers are out there doing. I think she eventually takes over as head of the station.
