Help with a book title(series) name in which the Earth is destroyed

SPOILER: I read a book series many years ago but I can't remember the name. The story is set on Earth when an alien ship of some kind lands/crashes on earth which goes under the ground. A creature is found near the site who tells the people that the Earth will be destroyed by the ship and he/she/it will help mankind make and ark to take children off the earth before it is destroyed. There is at least one sequel if not two which has the children tracking down the aliens that destroyed the earth. I was thinking it was Clarke or Herbert, maybe Heinlein but I can't find it. I can give more information about what happens if it's needed. Thanks for any info.

Yeah, those are the ones. I seem to remember the earth was destroyed by an anti-matter/black hole pair that eventually meet at the earths core.
