Malaysia isn't even really close to Oceania, maybe people are confusing it with the Melanesia region of Oceania? Guam is probably closest to Malaysia of any Oceanic country, and I have flown from Guam to KL and it was about 5 or 6 hours by plane.
      I read Unpolished Gem, a memoir by a Vietnamese girl who immigrated to Australia. There are quite a few memoirs by immigrants to Australia, and any would work.

      I read The Things She's Seen by Ambelin and Ezekiel Kwaymullina for this challenge. It was a beautifully written book.

I highly recommend The Ghost Bride, it's a wonderful book, however- Malaysia is considered part of Southeast Asia, not part of Oceania. I'm not sure what sites you found saying it is, but I every site I checked did not list Malaysia, and I checked about 20 different sites.
