I’m reading Wedded by Fate/A Love Victorious by Mrs. Georgie Sheldon ...all 510 pages of classic Victorian melodrama. Not always very plausible, but enjoyable!

Hannah, is that cover a bit risqué for the 1800's or am I just not seeing it properly??

Goodness, no. Victorians didn't mind baring their chests in the "proper" situations. Evening gowns in particular were reputedly scanty on top.

Huh. I always pictured 1890's time frame as the women's styles that were buttoned up to the neck. The cover on that book made me laugh. Without seeing the book up close, she looks like she's in her undergarments with a feather boa and a come hither look.

And yet, showing an ankle was simply not done.

Haha, yeah, because that was so erotic! Only kitchen maids and such were that "ill bred"!!

Jane | 20 comments Hah! What was it with the ankle obsessions back then?!? I look at my ankles and I think "who in the world would get all tingly over that ?!?!

. (yayayyaya) | 4 comments I'm reading a lot of randoms books at the moment, but I'm trying to focus on:

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

It's my first time reading it, and I am actually really enjoying it so far. It is so much more lighthearted than the Grimm fairytales xD

Amanda Stevens (amandagstevens) | 21 comments Finished: Hiding in the Light by Rifqa Bary

Started two new books this week. Both have mature content, so I won't link to them. They are Tear It Down by Nick Petrie and One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Hannah, I love all the obscure old books you unearth for GR (and ftr I also love your reviews just in general). I feel like I'm still catching up on so many of the classics, I don't have time yet in my reading for the lesser-knowns, but when I do I will be stalking your Read shelf. :)

Haha...true. Mrs. Sheldon was wildly popular in the Victorian era and a bestseller of serials and novels. She's largely forgotten today. I did have to add it to Goodreads myself when I got a copy a few weeks ago! :)

Feel free to send me a message anytime you need some recs for oldies. :)

I gave it up for now. It needed to go back to the library and I was just slogging along. It was great content; I was just having trouble focusing.

E.F. Buckles | 60 comments So far this month I've read and finished Five Poisoned Apples A Collection of Snow White Stories by Anne Elisabeth Stengl (physical copy) and Pollyanna (Pollyanna, #1) by Eleanor H. Porter (audio)

Now I am reading Unfinished Tales of Númenor and Middle-Earth by J.R.R. Tolkien (physical) and about to start Tuesdays at the Castle (Castle Glower, #1) by Jessica Day George (audio).

Unfinished Tales is one of those 400+ page books I mentioned being in my stack and therefore is probably not getting finished before the end of the month. I am enjoying it already, though. :) Tuesdays at the Castle should be easy to get through.
