POV changed every volume between the group of kids. One of the character was a guy and had a serious case of germaphobia so he was constantly washing his hands back in earth. First volume was a scene where she was bartering or trading whatever she had on her in this case a chemist or history hardcover book to someone. They had to join a war or a fight and it was definitely more than 5 volumes. Read this around 2003-2005. I don’t think this is spoiler but one of the girl betrayed (saw it coming from miles) appreciate the help base on this small info I can gather
