I decided to reread "The Great Gatsby" and was charmed by it all over again. I will say most other characters I felt like punching in the face, especially Daisy. I blame most of the conflict in the book on her. At times I even hated Nick. But, the one thing that brings everything together and makes the book worthwhile to me is Gatsby himself. How he even managed to develop the rich guy front and keep the truth hidden for so long is appalling in itself. Then, there's the lavish parties and his amazing mansion. He has a charm that, were I Daisy, would have had me in a wedding dress before that jerk Tom could even say hello. Gatsby is elegant, charming, charismatic, and, in my mind, one of the most fascinating characters in the history of writing. Yet, behind all that, he's a lonely man from poor origins lovesick for the rest of his life over a woman who, as far as I'm concerned, doesn't deserve him. Jay Gatsby may be dead, but he'll live on through his story forever. I rate it a 10.
