House of Chains the team not the BR, Year 2!
Jessica, I hope you don't mind but I changed your page count on Jade City and Before I Fall (because we both read them so I'd checked the correct count)! We're supposed to use the highest out of the top 5 most popular editions now, so you needed more points! :D
Again, hope you don't mind me meddling! π

Yep, I finally got up on the board! Bit of a slow start this year what with moving and starting a new job this week. Thanks for the reminder Siobhan about using the highest page count from the top 5 editions. I forgot the new rules this year.
On that note, I have a question.
Of the top 5 editions of Scythe, the highest page count is 525, but that is for the Spanish edition. The highest of the top five English editions is 449, which is what I used. So, top 5 in our language, right?

I have been doing the top 5 in the language I read it in. So english. I assumed this though....

I've not come across that problem yet, Melissa. The top 5 for mine so far have all been English I think.Going with the highest English one seems like the right thing to do, like Yanique assumed too. I just want to know that everyone's following the same guideline otherwise it would be unfair if someone else reads Scythe and puts more points down that you.

Technically it was the blood eagles who had all of their original members get on the scoreboard but Sha made us the first with a +1 to have everybody score!

I have some books to update and will get it done today I just need to figure out the challenges to put them on. Everybody's doing such a great job :)
I have been using the first 5 in English for pages numbers also since thats the only language I read in.

Well that's still a pretty cool achievement I think! :D
I'm doing my first buddy read of the year so far with Reaper's Gale. Taking it slow with the BRs this year, maybe only one or two a month. I think I can still do well without them.
So my reading definitely drops over the weekend when I'm not commuting, but I'm picking back up the pace this week!

I've only done one this year to date dropping my percentage way down. Last year I was doing 5 per month for the points. After a while trying to stick to a constant schedule started to wear on me. So now I'm basically BRing Malazan and some fill-ins.

It'll be interesting to see where we stand at the end of Jan i think. I'm reading 3 books at once ( i usually do this), i probably wont finish them for a little while but when i do i'll be adding 3 books worth of points in one go so I'll get a jump in points. If a lot of people do this or only add points once a week or so it could change things up a lot.
Yeah I think I'm about to hit a stretch where I've a few longer books piling up. It's going to be very satisfying inputting a couple thousand pages of books in one update!
The scoreboard is so in flux because people update in different ways. I'll check in the morning and a team 40 points down is suddenly in the afternoon 25 points up. It's very wait and see which makes it fun.
I think itβs exciting. All four teams are really close. The Jaghut even still have 4 people who are scoreless (I know Jess is reading Malazan and some other books). I think the draft is working to make the competition more interesting. Good job, mods!

Alright guys just went to my library's annual book sale and went a little crazy, so I'm planning on getting some epic reading done this weekend to justify the 16 books I just bought! Definitely looking forward to a weekend of hiding and reading

Siobhan wrote: "Jessica wrote: "Alright guys just went to my library's annual book sale and went a little crazy, so I'm planning on getting some epic reading done this weekend to justify the 16 books I just bought..."Here are the rando books I hadn't heard of before:
The Hunger and the Howling of Killian Lone: The Secret Ingredient of Unforgettable Food Is Suffering (horror novel about a guy who makes amazing food, but the food makes people go crazy/mad. Really interesting premise, probably going to start it first)
Death and the Penguin (mystery, crime thriller about a writer and his best friend Misha, the penguin. I think it's set in Russia... not sure, but the author is Russian, from Ukraine)
Touch (really don't know anything about this one, author is Canadian, it had a pretty cover, goodreads says that it's magical realism)
The Door in the Mountain (Greek mythology, young adult book, also had a cool cover)
Others that I have been wanting to read:
Half Bad (Was able to get this one and the sequel Half Wild)
Artemis
Heartless (retelling of Alice in Wonderland told from the pov of The Queen of Hearts)
Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography (This looks like a ton of fun, plus it's super short)
Beneath a Scarlet Sky (heard good things about this one, don't know much about it, think it takes place in WW2)
And a couple history books about the Tudors (like Winter King: Henry VII and the Dawn of Tudor England)
Super fun haul, that I'm excited to start going through!
Excellent! Some of those random ones sound fab! I love picking up something I've never heard of.I want to read Heartless too. Maybe we can do that in the YA Book Club soon :)

Ooh! Always fun having people to read with! I'm a sucker for almost anything Alice In Wonderland related, so Heartless seemed like an obvious pick up (and I've had it on my read list for a while)
Sounds like a fab haul!I finished Grey Sister, it's freaking fantastic. Seriously amazing, I think everyone should read it.

I'm super lucky to be surrounded by some great libraries that have lots of sales. So much fun digging through books! Library sales are the best
I haven't been to a library sale in forever, I used to buy books there as a kid, I'd forgotten they do that!I have a favourite second hand book shop that keeps me overstocked with hundreds of unread books... π
I haven't read Red Sister yet! But I will! Looking forward to that series.
I've got a good 2nd hand shop near me too but twice a year the library does $1 for all hardbacks and $0.50 for paper, I always go a little crazy lol. Charlie wrote: I'm so excited for Holy Sister but it's not even out yet!
It's not out yet, but only a few more months until it's is released (April 4th)! I've already got it on pre-order, super excited.
Curious to hear what you think of them too Siobhan, the whole series is so good!
I think I'll wait til after Holy Sister is out then read them all! :)Haha I would go crazy too at those prices!!
Charlie and I are starting an impromptu buddy read of Crooked Kingdom if anyone has read Six of Crows and wants to join! :)
Siobhan wrote: "I think I'll wait til after Holy Sister is out then read them all! :)Haha I would go crazy too at those prices!!"
There is something really fun about being able to read an entire series. I'd totally be into re-reading the first couple books with you if you want company.
Yes that would be awesome! We'll set it up :)I have a few books I want to get to this year that I'm hoping people will be interested in buddy reading. Need to have a look at my schedule and make some suggestions in the invite thread!
Some of them are:
The Grim Company
Promise of Blood
Prince of Fools
A Shadow in Summer
The Windup Girl
The Steel Remains
Altered Carbon
The Stormcaller
Spirit Gate
Green Rider
Mage's Blood
The Grey Bastards
I'm not much for grimdark, but I'd love to do Green Rider with you. (^_^)Huh. Out of curiosity, I tried to compare our books to see if there were other to-reads in common, but I got an error. :/
If anyone else wants to share a list of books they're wanting to tackle this year, it'd be fun to see what else we may potentially have in common.
