I'm just getting into Westerns. I was wondering which of Elmore Leonard's Westerns you could recommend? Which are his best? (I have read Hombre and enjoyed it.)"

Cheryl: You might try The Law at Randado or Valdez is Coming. The latter was made into a fairly good movie (with a horribly miscast Burt Lancaster as Valdez). I just watched it last week to compare it with my reread of the book. Next week I will watch Hombre (with Paul Newman - hoping for a better casting decision).

Marjorie (marjorielest) | 114 comments I was not planning on this series, but I read Emergence and now I must continue.
I should also be through the fourth Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by tomorrow.

The record for long reading may be my Eva. My mother gave her a paperback copy of Dorothy Dunnett's King Hereafter (Did you know that MacBeth was a Viking?) sometime in the early 1990s. Eva kept it on the nightstand and would try reading for a bit before she fell asleep. She rarely finished a single page of this fairly long (721pp) book. At one point she found a bookmark that said, "My goal is to finish this book by the turn of the century." Well, she did, but it was "a near run thing". She swore to never read another Dunnett (and she hasn't).

DD considered KH to be her masterpiece.

If he is using Android App, this is a known problem they have been trying to fix. There is no "button" to reply for groups discussion boards on Android App. Suggestion: use the Goodreads website on his phone/tablet, not the app.

If he IS using the Goodreads webpage to post on group threads, then I'm not sure why it is happening. Contacting Goodreads to help him with it is his best bet. He could try emptying his cache on his browser, clear cookies, then try signing in to Goodreads again. This procedure has helped some bugs in the past.

Ok, it looks like someone else had a similar problem posting. I found it in the Goodreads help group here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

That might help Peter, too.

Carolyn Since February was Mystery month, I spent time finishing some series that I had started last year and I got through or started a couple new ones.

2) Miss Marple series by Agatha Christie EB read the last 4 of the 14 books.
3) Charlie Parker series by Connie Shelton EB read the last 4 of the 16 books and a novella from somewhere in the middle.
4) A Charmed Pie Shoppe Mystery by Ellery Adams AB read 5 of 5 books
5) A Magical Baker Mystery by Bailey Cates AB/EB read 3 of 6 so far. Waiting for the others on hold.

I also read 3 or 4 from series that I had read that had new books come out over the last year, but since I only read 1 or 2 books for each, I didn't count that.

Adelaide Blair | 450 comments I don’t usually worry about finishing the series that that I read. It happens when it happens. BUT the Wheel of Time has been bugging me. I stopped reading after book 8 or 9 because I decided to wait until the series was complete. Then Robert Jordan died, and I wasn’t too sure about Sanderson. Well, he’s more than proved himself, so it’s time to get ‘er done. Reread The Eye of the World for the millionth time. (I am not a crazy person. I am giving myself two years for this challenge. )

message 74: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 23 comments Definitely joining this one. I have a lot of series that I want to reread and finish (or at least catch up on). Definitely The Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews, Mercedes Thompson series by Patricia Briggs, In Death series by J.D. Robb, and I'm thinking to re-read the Greywalker series by Kat Richardson, The Belgariad by David Eddings… er, I think you get the idea. I have a lot of them I'm wanting to work on. LOL!

I hadn't ever read anything by her and was very surprised. I was of the opinion that all she wrote was romance. The trilogy was an enjoyable read, each on their own, as well as within the larger series.

Finished Book Of The Ancestor Series by Mark Lawrence:
#1 Red Sister - 5/5
#2 Grey Sister - 4.5/5
#3 Holy Sister - 4/5

I enjoyed the first part of this trilogy the most, The Red Sister. It was ana amazing book and a lot for me to connect with. As the series progressed, I guess the change of settings made me feel a bit distant from the book, but still, it was a good series as each part was unpredictable. It delivered what it promised and I'd recommend it to anyone who has a good tolerance for violence, rage, and negative emotions. This book is darkness on steroids so lookout while reading it. But if you are curious to read about assassin nuns then you MUST read this book :)
