SOLVED. Kids book - Boy wants to get a printing press [s]

I read this when I was in the 4th grade, about 1975 or '76. What I remember of it is that a boy sees an old-fashioned printing press in the window of a store and wnats it desperately. While he is trying to figure out how to buy it, a girl he knows acquires it and tells him that she will swap it for a really beautiful doll. So he buys a crummy beat up doll at the charity store, smuggles it home somehow (he doesn't want other boys to see him holding a doll) and his mom fixes it up so that it is pretty and he swaps it with the girl for the printing press. Any ideas?
