The Help question

In the book, we can see many different degrees of characters being racist, ranging from Mrs. Hilly to Skeeter. To definition, racism is the discrimination or prejudice against another based on their race. As Mae Mobley grows up, it most likely true to say she will be racist to a subtle extent, as her community influences her. Would it be true to say that if the book were to have taken place elsewhere, would the children's perception and eventual fate of being racist be drastically different? Would a child, like Mae Mobley, as they grow up have the same exposure? And particularly, do role models such as Skeeter and Aibileen have a larger effect on a child rather than their immediate family (mom, dad, etc.)?
