Watership Down
question
A Look Behind the Story

I've recently researched the real location of Watership Down. It's in England, just south of where Richard Adams lives. The article I read outlines the hill similarly to the story, as it's described as a "broad, treeless, hill" in the article. I find it really cool that it's based off of the real-life location that Adams lives near.
Discovering that this was a real place made me think of the imagery Richard Adams uses in the story. He vividly paints a picture of what the hill and the warren is like. Although I do have to say that the location isn't necessarily what I had expected it to be. I find that even if imagery is accurate, my mind takes known scenery and just adds little details to it. For example, I thought of a creek near my house and places in Europe that I visited over the Summer that I thought had looked like what Richard Adams was describing when I was reading the book.
I've included some pictures and links to what the actual place, and I encourage you to try looking up the actual place as well. Did you picture the same scenery from the imagery in the book? If not, what did you picture it to be like?
