Rainbowheart, can you describe the illustrations - realistic/cartoony/cute, simple/detailed, painted watercolors/bold graphics, sunny/dark/muted colors/black & white?
Do they remind you of another illustrator or picture book author?

Just checked the Junior Elf list, but nothing looked familiar there.

The style was much more Dick and Jane. Very Little Golden Book of the 1950s.

Wonder Books
A Cozy Corner Books
Tip Top Elf Books (A Rand McNally Book)
Story Hour Book series
Whitman Tell-A-Tale Books

Other possible but not probable books are: The Happy Family by Nicole , illustrated by Corinne Malvern and Happy Days: What Children do the Whole Day Through ( a little golden book).

It's not any of these, sadly. The Happy Book has the wrong sort of style. The Happy Family and Happy Days are a lot closer, but they still aren't the right one. Out of the three, I'd say Happy Days looks closest.

The Romper Room Laughing Book
I had been looking through pages of Little Golden Book knockoffs, and I finally came across it. This is a Wonder Book from 1963. I even found a video on YouTube, yay!
Thanks mucho to everyone who tried to help!

Hope someone can help with this. I remember a super old-school picture book. It would have been around in the '80s, but I'm certain it was published in the '50s or '60s. It was close to the Little Golden Book format, but I believe it was a knock-off of that series, not an actual LGB.
Plot was about a sick or injured little girl. I remember scenes of her lying in bed with measles or maybe mumps. Possibly with a cold, her mom or a nurse or doctor taking her temperature. There was also an illustration of her falling down while roller skating and hurting her knee. I also remember her going to the zoo. Can't recall if some accident befell her at the zoo or not.
I think the title of this book was something like "The Happy Book," but if you try to search for that, there are zillions of titles. I think the gist of the story was that even though the little girl was sick or injured, there were things she could do to cheer herself up, like singing a little song to herself. "Everybody has a happy place," I think I remember a line like that.
Old-school classic illustrations, I'd say mid '60s at the very latest. One of those books where everyone came out of the Leave It to Beaver, Dick and Jane world. Everyone super white, upper middle class, suburban, etc.
Thanks mucho for any help!
