And the Rumors Start...

I really, really hope this isn't the case, as I was going to give up on the show because of how Moffat wrote the series, and didn't have much hope, but I loved the episodes and characters for this series and it has reignited my love for Doctor Who.

Will be sad if it happens, as I'm really liking this season.
It would also add to the pattern that the angry fanboys who say they just want to make a thing better end up shutting it down instead.
Starburst: Doctor Who BBC Confirms Series 12
The second rumour that’s currently doing the rounds is that new showrunner Chris Chibnall hasn’t been happy behind the scenes, and is set to quit after Series 12.
We can only speculate as to his possible reasons – if indeed the story is true – but Chibnall told us quite firmly in January 2013 that he didn’t want the showrunner job, and it’s possible after the success of Broadchurch that the BBC pursued him for it against his better wishes. Or simply that he changed his mind.
Either way, if there is any truth to this rumour then it’s also been said that Jodie Whittaker would not want to continue on as the Doctor without Chibnall at the helm, and would leave at the same time as he did.
Both Chibnall and Whittaker have certainly looked happy enough during the pre-publicity for Series 11, and with the ratings success they’ve had it would be a loss for them both to go after one more series. But the BBC is an odd, double-headed beast (the programme is essentially now a co-production between the BBC and its autonomous subsidiary BBC Studios), and Chibnall would seem to be happier working with his own production company on series like Broadchurch.

But it's all certainly plausible.
Also, I hadn't heard that the Xmas special had been moved to New Years. I think I'd actually prefer an annual New Years special instead of a Christmas special. Or maybe an anniversary special every year around the end of November.

The move to Sunday nights I think has effected things somewhat, especially in the hometown UK. If I recall Doctor Who in all the incarnations has ALWAYS been on Saturday Nights. [Need someone from UK to verify that]
I know the move to Sunday has affected my viewing - namely Sunday is not a good night for watching the show. I have too much going on around the time it's on (6 pm in MTZ) which is generally when I'm trying to get dinner on the table and a reluctant 16 year old to pack up her stuff to go home for the week. I can and do watch the episode later in the week, but it's just not the same.

I think sometime during the Peter Davison run it was moved to Mondays and Tuesdays or something like that. That didn't help the ratings either. Although maybe that was during Colin Baker's run? I'm not sure, but it was sometime in there. The DVDs list the air dates as being on consecutive nights.

But, as far as I know, the ratings have stayed fairly consistent with the previous season or two.
Maybe a slight dip, but nothing like the apocalypse some fanboys are making it out to be.

But, I have faith that the awful people on youtube will find a way to blame this on feminism or the secret PC cabal or left handed vegans...

UK here, but I only started watching when it was the Ninth Doctor (wasn't even born when it was McCoy :o ) And it was pretty much drilled into my head that Doctor Who was Saturday. I still think, oh, Doctor Who this Saturday, and only last minute do I remember it is Sunday. The slightly changing times means I keep on forgetting as well, sometimes seven, other times twenty to seven, so I leave it to record on my digibox and normally catch it just when it is ending -- are views registered when people record them off skyboxes?

I think it's true, as I remember and article on BBC saying that the New Year ep would be the only one in 2019, and the new season would be the year after that. ;.; I'm already getting withdrawal pangs.

Yeah. I guess I'll be re-watching the whole series yet again next year. ;)

Might there be some hope of lots of novels and comics coming out perhaps? I hope so. Especially an audio drama.

Here's your confirmation Rick:

Thanks, Lori. I'm always worried about posting what amounts to only being rumors.
And I suppose I should look at having yet another year with no new Who, as yet another opportunity to re-watch the entire series from start to finish all over again. But I'm still not finished with my epic re-watch of the all surviving classic episodes that I started in 2017. I got derailed when the opportunity to watch the new season as it aired presented itself to me. I'll be getting back to that sometime after the New Year's Special. Then I'll move onto getting to as many of the Eighth Doctor audios that I get my greedy little hands on (I also have the first John Hurt audio set that I've been waiting to get to), before moving to the new series again. So much Who to do! :D

On one hand this is keeping actors around for four years during a "three season" contract. It wouldn't be so bad if the number of episodes was higher, but with only 10-12 episodes a season it's just frustrating, annoying and aggravating. If I didn't love the series so much I'd just stop watching. Although, I suppose, part of the problem this year is that I'm watching it as it aired. In previous years I've had to wait for the discs to come out. Maybe I should just go back to watching them on disc and ignore the whole original broadcast times.

I agree. Another thing about Tennant's "Specials" Season besides it being only 5 stories, well 4 really is it turned out to be his final season. Actually if I recall correctly he had announced it was going to be his final season before they decided it would be a series of stretched out specials.
Apparently, there is a rumor going around that the BBC aren't happy with Chibnall and are getting ready to fire him. And JW will leave out of loyalty to Chibnall.
I can't think why the BBC would be displeased. The ratings are fairly good, from what I've heard. I don't know if the move to Sundays has helped or harmed the show. In any case, that move is the BBC's doing.
Anyway, it would be extremely disappointing if this is true, because I like 13 at lot, and I feel most of the episodes this season have been quite good.
But again, swimming pool of salt.
