oh wow..even phone for visitors..now that's something to think about!..i know in the US its difficult to buy a sim card..but if you are visiting Asia normally you could buy a local pre-paid sim card without the need for additional handphone..also minus the hefty phone bill..
Sim-only deals are a dime a dozen - £15 will get you all-you-can-eat data with tethering for a month + shed-loads of call time & texts. Lots of overseas tourists buy them. People often moan about the UK being expensive yadda yadda, but mobile comms is one thing we've got right :)
yeah its the US that is soo backward..lol..a friend of mine has to buy me a 200 dollar phone for a 100 minute talk time! and I've not heard them selling sim card either..not sure how it is now though..
I got a nokia, not sure what type, the numbers have worn off, or they may be obscured by the sellotape that holds the back on.I don't switch it on every week

I've got a Huawei, which sounds like that noise Jack Douglas used to make with his character Mr. Ippytittymus (that's showing my age with a vengeance). I like it (the phone, not Jack Douglas), its cheap and does what it says on the box.
I got a Moto G when my Huawei decided to brick itself for no reason. I rarely use it as a phone but its great for Map my Walk, Librivox and the Goodreads app for its barcode scan
I've just been out to get a new phone contract, I got a Galaxy S4. But I also got a new mobile number. Which was unexpected but also a bit sad, silly as it seems, it feels like an old friend. Come up with a good idea though, am transferring my old number to a PAYG on a different network as a spare :)
iPhone 5S. This is actually the first iPhone I've owned. I used to work part time in a phone shop, so I was exposed to the latest and greatest smartphones on a daily basis ... and I went through several phones in two years!
I can say with a fair bit of authority that iPhones are the most reliable by a long, long way. They may not be perfect but they break down less frequently than other makes.
