Starting the year 2019 off right. My Challenge will be Mr. Darcy's level at 200 books. I'll set up the individual levels and then only have to edit each category so it doesn't post duplicate entries.

CF [Colin Firth]... Sigh. I adore him... will always love him best as Mr. Darcy. MM [Matthew Macfadyen] hmmm. I tried to like him. It was like there were moments when he nailed it and then it was like he lost the muse. The performance was never consistent. I'd rally for him and then sigh as he went somewhere in his head and was no longer Darcy. I just could not grasp him as Darcy.
DR [David Rintoul]: he should get the award for best performance of the snooty, prideful, disdainful, haughty, and aloft Darcy. Some said he was wooden but I disagree. It was my first P&P movie and I didn't care. I liked him. When he relaxed and smiled after she accepted him... I sighed.

Lol...I call DR "robo-Darcy". I rewatched the 1st half a couple of yrs ago. I'll have to give the 2nd half a go soon. :)
I like that, Kirk. "Robo-Darcy" I can see that. I imagine his body ached after a day of shooting. He held himself was so stiff and aloof. I first watched it years ago and didn't think much of it. As time went on and motion picture technologies improved... I could see the flaws and inaccuracies in the production. The terrible lighting, that was supposed to mimic candlelight, was just awful and probably hard on their eyes. It was on mine.
Plus, if you look closely, Mr. Bennet had to be uncomfortable in his favorite chair. His shoulders were broader than the chair. They didn't measure him or the chair very well. He even looked uncomfortable.
But, that was my first P&P and I felt it more closely followed Austen's text than any other production. Creative license is one thing, but to rewrite Austen is sacrilege. Thanks for commenting.
I'm the one who found Rintoul wooden. Actually, I didn't think much of any of the acting in that one. Elizabeth Garvie was way too proper and dull compared to the Elizabeth I conjure in my imagination. I own it. Watched it once and hated it, but I HAD seen both of the newer versions multiple times (I own them too!) before seeing that. Might have felt differently if I'd seen it first.
Perhaps. It is all perspective. The one we see first sets the tone and the foundation on which we see all the others. There are good parts, bad parts and terrible parts to each of them. None are perfect. I like to remember those scenes I like and forget the rest. Thanks for commenting.
I agree that none are perfect! I even find some book covers off-putting when the models are too far from my mental image of the characters.
I know. We complained about one cover being salacious and sensual when the story was nothing like that. I was cruising Amazon one day and saw that they had selected a new cover.

Congrats and Happy Belated Anniversary!!! Much more important than Matthew Macfadyen...10/17 is Felicity Jones bday!!!!! I was pleased when my Felicity bday 5 pack post had around 40 likes on AiB... mid-afternoon I put a Matthew one...over 100(maybe the most for one post) laugh at myself. :)
