GigiBee | 12 comments Since this is a writing community, I thought I would post all of the helpful books/articles/programs I've come across while reading about writing! Please post any awesome links you've come across too. I hope to edit this list as I find more good stuff! :D

Programs to Help You Get Your Work Done

http://www.ommwriter.com/ (Nice ambiance to calm your brain down while you write. I used this program for a long while until I switched to Zenwriter, and then my computer hard drive was wiped and I no longer have either. Still trying to decide whether or not to download it again. Does not allow you to save your work as a .doc file, but now exports to .txt and .pdf.)

http://ilys.com/ (Tell the processor your wordcount goal, and it won't let you edit until you've reached it. You're only able to see what you type one letter or punctuation mark at a time.)

http://writtenkitten.net/ (Positive reinforcement website. Reach your word count goal, receive kitten!)

http://writeordie.com/ (At the simplest "try" level that is free, which consists of the two sliders at the very bottom, put in your word count and time limit. You have three modes: stimulus, reward, and consequence. I tried it on consequence mode and was able to reach my goal on the first try.)

As an aside, Scrivener (http://www.literatureandlatte.com/ind...) is actually a program that's for the entire novel writing process, but does have a full-screen mode and an option to black out your entire screen save for your text. I have not purchased this yet and am waiting for my free trial to expire, but I'm pretty sure I will buy this program because it has been very helpful so far.

Cold Turkey (http://getcoldturkey.com/) is a pay-what-you-want program (you choose what percentage of payments to go charity) that will block certain websites and programs for a set amount of time. This program is very hard to disable once it's running and basically forces you to focus. Very useful when combined with Write or Die.

Simply Noise: http://www.simplynoise.com/ (exactly what it says it is. This site plays white noise to help you focus!)

Simply Rain: http://rain.simplynoise.com/ (a companion site to Simply Noise, this site plays soothing rain sounds for peaceful concentration)

AutoCrit: https://www.autocrit.com/index.php

ProWritingAid http://prowritingaid.com/

Note: ProWritingAid was the more impressive choice for me because it has most of the paid features of AutoCrit available for free, as well as more affordable premium memberships. However, I thought I would list both so people can check them out.

That's it for now! Anyone else? :D

I found this name generator website and I love it! It gives you lots of good names for cities, charcters, species, e.t.c. It gives you both realistic and fantasy names!
