I'm trying to get through it, too! Taking it a chapter at a time, one every few days. So I'll probably still be reading it at Christmas! There are some characters who've appeared and then disappeared and I'm wondering if I'll ever see them again. If not, why were they there? I do want to find out how it all pans out, but I'm not invested into it enough to read it to the exclusion of other works.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1252 comments I am sorry to say I agree, Elin. I did enjoy bits and pieces and just as it was getting good... it either ran out of steam or veered off the road completely. Too bad.

This has not happened to me before... Halfway through, I am giving up on a previous favourite. The adjectives and flavourful language combined with the utter lack of emotions, made it very hard to connect with the characters. I am not changing my review or rating but my taste must have altered profoundly since reading this 2-3 years ago...

Wlecome indeed, Elin. And we need a nice warm fire, too. Frost and 1°C in the UK this morning!

message 57: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1252 comments We will need a fire indeed. We have another 'Bomb Cyclone' that is hitting our midwest and they are expecting blizzard conditions and feet of snow. Those poor people are getting hammered. We missed the snow this year; however, we had the record-breaking rains. If it had been snow, we would still be digging out. So... a good roaring fire it is. Come on in guys and enjoy. Miss Fanny will see to our comfort. She may be quiet but she is friendly and does not tolerate fools. We should be safe in her care.

message 58: by Elin (new)

Elin Eriksen (vaarin) | 245 comments A fire sounds nice Anji and Jeanne. It was -5°C this morning but it gets warm during the day, 10°C and sunny. The snow is melting and in two more days, we have Easter break, Yay!
Very happy I do not have a blizzard coming my way. I am in spring mood and the sun is shining, I am feeling very blessed.

Elin Eriksen (vaarin) | 245 comments Unpublished stories that I have found recommend on Facebook and my TBR on Kindle:

81 Saved by Love, ElizabethAnneSoph, FF, 57k, M for child-abuse. I gave it 2* for the intriguing premises of E as Lady C's daughter. The writer had no knowledge of how to build a story or how to engage or draw a reader in. It jumped all over the place. In addition, the story had sever plausibility issues. Example: D&E are betrothed from E's birth because they suited each other in intellect, interest and temper. That was a tall order for a newborn... She was whipped for years until she passed out, without anybody noticing??? Modern language put the last nail in the coffin for this story. It was utter rubbish with a great premise. https://m.fanfiction.net/s/9005996/29/ 2*
82 A time Remembered, Kathy Taylor, 57k, Rated: all. An accident during ODC's first encounter gave E amnesia and she reverted back to the age of 5 then 8 in behaviour and understanding. The long period of the child like E, grated severely on my nonexistent patience. Meh...
I take offence when an author finds it necessary to explain the meaning of her dialogue, it makes it seem like she is expecting her reader to be stupid.

83 A letter of denial and a letter of goodbye, CohlinEhle, FF, 2k http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/45... 5*
84 Sometimes a great notion, Judy-Lynne, 108k
E&D reunite in London, funny moments but superficial, E a little too soapy - running away from D more than once, Hunsford unchanged but altered events before and after. Great set down of CB by D. 2.5*

121 Friends and Lovers, DarcyDeFirth, FF, 83k, rated: K (should have been M due to explicit sexual descriptions). 29 chapters, of those were the first 16 introduction! That is the longest introduction I have ever read, it is practically novel length. Enters pre-canon with Darcy meeting Bingley and a twist to Anne de Bourgh. Loved the banter between D&B. No insult at the assembly and no obstacles for ODC. Long winded. 3*

Excellent progress, Elin. I loved The Muse. I was lucky enough to win a copy when it was first published and thought the world of ballet fitted into the story extremely well. Must get around to Nefarious and It's Always Been You.

Elin Eriksen (vaarin) | 245 comments Thank you Anji!
Still Waters is the first novel that I have finished. It started out as "what would change if Jane died at Netherfield" but ended more as a "lust is not love and you can love someone that does not deserve it..." kind of plot. I am writing several though as the plot bunnies are disturbing my reading if I do not write them down. Mainly focussing on HEA at the moment. It is a continuation of the 2005 movie and will be several books. It started with "what if Elizabeth had brown eyes and M&M Bennet had blue". I am also writing a modern, set in England on an explosive factory and a Regency farce of "what if ODC entered a platonic marriage".

Wow! I have a plot bunny for a sci-fi P&P running around in my head, but when I try to write it down, the words just dry up! So I'm currently left with a series of disjointed fragments that I can't even call chapters. Maybe one day, I'll sit down and thrash it all out with my muse!

Are you planning to publish at some point, or post online?

message 100: by Elin (new)

Elin Eriksen (vaarin) | 245 comments You should write it down, even if it is just a scene or even a snippet of an idea. I do and I have always found use for it.
I have no plans of publishing, it is not good enough. I have grazed the thought of putting it on one of the fanfiction sites but I have not decided. I send the word file to those who want to read it and 6 people have requested it. Only one have given me feedback and she called it an "absolutely fabulous" story which was made my day but she also mentioned its dire need of editing. I am not English or English speaking so the grammar are thereafter...
