Here is an interesting request I received from a group member who is trying to respond to climate change doubters. What are your suggestions of books and links to help him out:

What are the best books I can read to so I can refute misinformation being given out by skeptics of global warming also books about how to be diplomatic about it when I approach such people.

I think this is one of the best sites to use for information on climate change. It is NASA's site. Just click on the different links:

The number of Americans who accept the fact that the climate is changing is now 5 to 1.

One reason is that it is plainly evident that the weather changed in a bad way. It isn't going to get better for a long time. There will always be a group of people who won't believe in something. We all have things we don't believe in that we should.

You are better off talking strategy, how to survive, what businesses you want to support for whatever reason rather than debating with climate change deniers. Even with people understanding the climate has changed there will always be doubts as to how it changed. The biggest driver right now is 2 pronged. First, people want to know what to quit doing so it doesn't get worse, unfortunately this change is powered by momentum, which doesn't stop on a dime. Companies are noting what people are thinking and the economic decisions are slowly being made to reflect this. Its going to take a long time but more and more changes will be taking place both good and bad. The biggest fires haven't happened yet. The biggest storms haven't hit yet. Now we know the storms don't even have to be the biggest, all they have to is hang around for longer than normal and any storm becomes a threat.

Who to blame is solely a legal issue so as to have some one to sue in court. We have seen what happens when a company gets sued, big payouts of which none of it used to make sure the problem doesn't happen anymore.

Electric cars are slowly making their forward in some places, while in other markets they are going to explode in growth. Even without subsidies China's electric car market will be the largest in the world. And that's what counts, the bigger markets need to change first if we want to see any progress. Changes made for elitist purposes aren't going to change anything anytime soon.

Just accepting climate change isn't going to solve anything. This isn't the kind of problem where one can acknowledge it, and then move on with their life. Plenty of people who have accepted climate change still haven't figured that out. It isn't about our lives, or hopes, or plans, it's about dealing with a totally impersonal force that will never care what kind of damage it wrecks upon the world. About the only thing that would stop it over night would be an ice age. I figure we killed that change for a long time with all the oxides and sulfides of carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur we have put into the air, not mention everything else we launched into the air with total impunity.

There are literally thousands of ways and routes we took to get to where we are, and part of it has always been out of control, part of it the result of natural processes, part of it short sighted planning. This means there are thousands of things that need to be changed before anything is going to make a noticeable change for the better. Everyone has something to offer, and a lot of people, though not everyone has something to quit doing. The people who have nothing to quit doing are the ones who have nothing in the first place.

We have to change the basic ways we do things. The first thing would be to stop shoveling the Earth into furnaces and burning that into ashes to squeeze all the energy out of it. The phones are made this way, so no one is exempt from these kinds of operations. I don't think manufacturing and mining logistics will be changing for a long time. Fortunately there are a lot of choices individuals can make and are now readily available that will make a difference. Ironically the phones will have a big role in changing how people do things.

Genetic information provides priceless clues on how problems that affect our immediate health were handled by different species in the past. At some point we are going to wake up, though maybe not before it's too late, to realize that understanding the way the world worked to get us here is far more valuable than the need to wipe every animal off the face of the earth like it was some kind of necessity, or game, or annoyance, or reward for doing something just because we can do it.

The list just goes on and on. But first we have to provide ways of responding to events as they unfold and after they are supposedly over. It's a global society, the damage in one place will affect everywhere else. Every week somewhere on the planet a country takes a beating from a weather related incident For those who think isolation is the cure, the planet isn't big enough to hide from Mother Nature. Mother nature is such an appropriate word or maybe it's a world, anyway back then people didn't think they knew everything and were willing to believe there are more things in heaven and earth, than are dreamt of in our philosophies.

As for people in authority who are issuing commands that flout Mother Nature, the downside of those commands will be seen the very next day. It's like spitting into the wind. The decision themselves are rooted in sand which is rapidly blowing away.

Thank you Jimmy . We have a friend who is 20 yr old Canadian who wants to be corporate lawyer . Canada had the most to gain from global warming and the most to lose if the fossil fuel industry is shut down so kids are fed misinformation from an early age. WE know she is a good person at heart but out of misguided loyalty to Canada and misinformation she wants to become a corporate lawyer and defend coal and oil companies .

Thank you for the link Robert -thats kind of comforting that teh chinese are changing the electric market . I note you did not mention becoming vegetarian since 75 liters methane belched by each cows per day is 25X more potent than Co2 and Methane as a green house does not persist more than a few months so If we eliminate belching cows it will have a very quick effect on dropping climate change rate .

The cattle industry is actually the biggest contributor especially if you factor in deforestation done to make room for grazing pasture or for corn fields where corn is grown the for feed lot raised cows ....Just becoming vegetarian is a big help

Climate change grief.

This is the Youtube page

And show them the orang utan video too. Even if they don't want to admit to climate change they can see that human activity is causing problems.

If deniers knew that THEY not their grandchildren would be facing the consequences of their actions i think they would be more concerned about climate change :
Here is my playlist of 24 documentary videos about a total of over 200 investigations of children claiming to be a person who recently died whom no one in the child's family knew but when investigated the child's memories checked out :

A much inferior quality version of the same film, Darius. Maybe a copy of a copy, like a reincarnation, isn't the same quality. I don't know if it gets better but I would find it hard to watch that all the way through. Try clearing your browser, deleting cookies, and coming back to the first link..

What's Really Happening to Our Planet? The Facts Simply Explained by Tony Juniper
Lots of facts, visuals, graphics. Sometimes that makes more sense than trying to express something in percentages.

This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate
This Changes Everything Capitalism vs. The Climate by Naomi Klein
A long read but a good detailed one, and it's by a Canadian journalist. I find books written by journalists are often a great deal more understandable than books by scientists.

Thansks Ill definitely acquire them and read them

ALSO I had an insight "Balance Truth with Love when talking to deniers "

of course some people simply will not talk to me. Here' s a case en point :

https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

if you read her profile she says THE CORPORATION 2003 is her favorite movie . This movie talks about how evil corporations are because they are essentially a group of share holders who themselves dont work but who value nothing but making money no matter who they hurt . 20 yr old Rebecca says she wants to be a corporate lawyer and she says " I don't believe in man-made climate change and I think that all the measures being taken to prevent it are ridiculous,"

She lives in canada --a cold country of energy resource companies whose climate would actually benefit from global warming .

my message to her was :
I am one of the people who sent you a link and I appreciate your not blocking me because I really enjoy your writing and your favorite documentary THE CORPORATION 2003 and look froward to following your reviews and books .

I am truly sorry you found our efforts to Reach out to you annoying . There are lot of highly placed people giving out misinformation on the issue for self serving reasons and we thought that perhaps you this may have froud it way to you and wanted you to know how easy it can be refuted

Here was the link I sent you . I let every one judge if it is annoying or simply a freeing of ones mind from misconceptions ....

https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/20...
Any way Rebecca if at any time you are annoyed with me just send me a personal message to stop and I will send no more

Thank you for not blocking me and please do send me a message if the above link is unacceptable to you and you want no more from me on this topic.

BTW This is my only GR account . I am a member of a very closely knit very loving , positive spiritual group and a few of these really like and recommend you and follow you and thinking you very special the 5-6 of us decided to reach out to you on this topic in a loving way to see if we could get you passionate about using your writing and legal skills to support the climatologists recommendations .

Her reply was : Please don't send me questions or comments regarding my personal viewpoint on these things. I'm in no mood to debate with anyone and I will not respond. I will simply block you.
So it looks like we have a future advocate of energy resource companies in Canada . Nothing to do but accept that ....

With luck the lady will take the time to inform herself. My advice is to keep it short. And as you say, treat someone with respect rather than hate.

Darius Murretti | 5 comments Thank you . I now realize that it may takes months of gradually leading up to it with someone like a neighbor (I have just such a neighbor )
Climate change is a big shock it you hit some one with the facts all at once. I will have to go help my neighbor with jobs he is doing so he values my help and then Can slip in a fact and then change the subject to how well the job is going before he gets too upset .

If there are 50% believers and 50% none believers then if every believer converts one non believer in their whole, life it is a great thing !!!!
