Born in 1998, I'm a student by day, fiction author on the side, certified as a library technician and studying to be a legal consultant. I'm a graduate of the Nova Scotia Community College, but I went back to school not long after receiving my diploma, so now I'm currently majoring in Law, Justice and Society (BA) at Dalhousie University. I've also done a course in Magic, Science and the Occult at King's College. I've published many books under the name "Rebecca McNutt", my most popular title being Bittersweet Symphony, a novel about the impact of the September 11th Attacks, as well as a YA occult fantasy/horror novel called Necromancy Cottage, and a number of short stories. I'm a millennial conservative who cares nothing about climate change and wholly sup ...more

These people from anything I've seen have been asked time and time again to retell their experiences in full to reporters, filmmakers, talk show hosts, protesters, tourists, the list goes on. It probably gets really annoying and offensive after a while. I do know people who were really affected by it in terrible ways and who lost friends in the disaster, but again, better not to ask about it. (less)

Farewell Forever 21

I went with my mom and sister to explore the bankrupt world of Forever 21 at the Micmac Mall here in Halifax. The store is hollow and full of racks of unwanted clothing all 40% off. Rows and rows and rows of clothes. It's super-eerie and a little disturbing. I ended up buying a bunch of cheap eye makeup and skirts and a rainbow-striped sweater (I love retro-looking striped clothing), and my sis... Read more of this blog post »

“There's a kind of magic that must be learned with toil and difficulty, line by line, spell by spell, the magic of the Book of Necromancy - and then there's another kind that springs from the depths of the heart, from caring for someone and loving him. It's hard to understand, I know, but you had better trust that magic, Krabat.”
Otfried Preußler, Krabat

“Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”
Winston S. Churchill

“What separates us from the animals, what separates us from the chaos, is our ability to mourn people we’ve never met.”
David Levithan, Love Is the Higher Law

“Tragedy whores don’t feel the foundation break apart beneath their feet—the reeling blast of emptiness, though to watch them you might think so. They’re voyeurs. They feed like coffin flies on drama, embroiled in virtual grief and the illusion of heartbreak. They all have stories they want to tell, insist on telling, proclaiming their link to tragedy. Emotional rubberneckers.”
Carole Radziwill, What Remains: A Memoir of Fate, Friendship, and Love

“I have no affinity for animals. I don’t hate animals and I would never hurt an animal; I just don’t actively care about them. When a coworker shows me cute pictures of her dog, I struggle to respond correctly, like an autistic person who has been taught to recognize human emotions from flash cards. In short, I am the worst.”

Yup, I get out of classes for the summer starting in late April, but I'm taking a legal ethics of commerce course at Dalhousie University voluntarily. I don't get a spring break, though (unfortunately), but I can't wait for the snow to melt so I can see the flowers and grass again! I'm not yet sure what my spring plans are but I'll probably be taking a lot of rural photos. :)
