The Hate U Give, by Angie Thomas is about a young girl named Starr fighting. She partied and on her way home a police officer stopped them and eventually, she saw her best friend die. She was so depressed she was anxious to talk to anyone about it. Her high school is where she is able to be her and it's her happy place. Later on her dad teaches her a lesson basically saying to fight for what you want. He said she should not be quiet about anything and that she has a mouth for a reason. So Starr uses it fights hard and it was difficult but she got through it and got what she was speaking for.
I think this is an amazing book because it teaches you real life lessons. In the text it states, "At and early age I learned that people make mistakes, and you have decide if their mistakes are bigger than your love for them." This makes me understand that people should not hate others if you love them way more even if you are mad at them. Also another quote is, "Sometimes you can do everything right and things will still go wrong. The key is to never stop doing right." This makes me wonder if doing something right is possible without doing something wrong.
However the weaknesses in the book is some things did not really belong in the book. For example, "What is Tumblr anyway? Is it like Facebook? No and you're forbidden to get one. No parents allowed. You guys already took over facebook." I don't see how it connects with anything in this story or if it is even important. Another sentence is "It's also about the Oscar. Aiyana. Trayvon. Rekia, Michael. Eric. Tamir. John. Ezell. Sandra. Freddie. Alton. Philando. It's even about that boy in 1955 who nobody recognized at first." I also don't understand what the Oscars have to do and who these people are. This is my summary and my opinions on what 'The Hate U Give' is.
