Annette | 2 comments I can recommend Matt & Karen Smith's travelogues
Dear Bob and Sue and Dear Bob and Sue: Season 2

message 253: by Katie (new)

Katie (kdungan91) | 7 comments I'm thinking of reading Under the Stars: How America Fell in Love with Camping for this challenge. I'd call camping a hobby!

message 254: by Nikki (new)

Nikki | 6 comments I think I’m going to read The Animators. The two main characters are artists. That would qualify right? :)

message 255: by Devon (new)

Devon | 1 comments The Vampire Knitting Club. First in a series and I am a knitter! Cute book so far.

Katy M | 960 comments Devon wrote: "The Vampire Knitting Club. First in a series and I am a knitter! Cute book so far."

Are you also a vampire? Because that would be pretty cool.

message 257: by Lucie Renee (new)

Lucie Renee (lucierenee) | 33 comments How about A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson for the hobby of hiking? His books make me laugh out loud.
For the hobby of travel, Bill Bryson also wrote In a Sunburned Country about travelling in Australia that is hysterical.

message 258: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Morrison | 145 comments I like Mariana Zapata and while Kulti is a romance novel the entire story is based around soccer so I'm going to use it here.

message 259: by Stéphanie (new)

Stéphanie (stephaniesbooks) | 16 comments I read Tasting Italy: A Culinary Journey by America's Test Kitchen and National Geographic. AKA BEAUTIFUL PICTURES!! I absolutely love how simple the recipes are and the historical take the book has on the regions of Italy, their local food history, and what ingredients are native to these regions. A book that is wonderful to look at, informative, and has recipes to boot. I chose it for this prompt since I love cooking (a huge hobby of mine), and so it fits perfectly.

Thomas Brittany wrote: "I like Mariana Zapata and while Kulti is a romance novel the entire story is based around soccer so I'm going to use it here."
I assume they are not professional soccer players?

message 261: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sezziy) | 901 comments Would you guys count pageants as hobbies? I don't know much about them but I was thinking of reading Dumplin' for this prompt

message 262: by Sue (new)

Sue S | 0 comments I have just read Knit Two by Kate Jacobs, a sequel to The Friday Night Knitting Club. Not as good as the first book but a nice easy read.

message 263: by Brittani (new)

Brittani Allen | 23 comments I used The Distance from Me to You for this. Hobby: Hikinig. And I loved the book!

message 264: by Alix (new)

Alix (alixbrand) | 57 comments I have no hobbies except reading, so I stole the recommendation for Dear Fahrenheit 451: Love and Heartbreak in the Stacks

message 265: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 734 comments Sarah wrote: "Would you guys count pageants as hobbies? I don't know much about them but I was thinking of reading Dumplin' for this prompt"

I would; I've never done it but I had friends who dabbled in pageants.

message 266: by Erica (new)

Erica Bernier (esbernier) I'm a cellist so I will go with "The Silver Swan" by Elena Delbanco !

message 267: by Sofia (new)

Sofia Stiernborg (sofia76) | 4 comments I love bullet journaling so I’m going to read ”The Bullet journal method” by Ryder Carroll.

message 269: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1301 comments So, my son said the other day (after I complained I didn't have a table for my things, because they are full of different art projects etc), it's because 'you don't have a hobby'... I guess he's right, except for reading, but I think he meant a creative hobby. So a few days later he found the solution: He thinks I should have Warhammer as a hobby, so I can paint and play with him. Still considering. But if I take it up I might read one of his codex books :)

message 270: by Kate (new)

Kate (pagesprose) | 5 comments Forgive me if some has asked this already, but would any of you all count I'll Be Gone in the Dark for this prompt? Michelle McNamara was an amateur sleuth so I wasn't sure...I'd be interested to hear y'alls thoughts!

message 271: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Millson (emillson) | 5 comments Anyone have suggestions for books to do with singing? I'm not big into autobiographies but any other ideas would be welcome!

message 272: by Soph ♡ (new)

Soph ♡ | 130 comments Elaine wrote: "Anyone have suggestions for books to do with singing? I'm not big into autobiographies but any other ideas would be welcome!"

Angie Thomas has a book that has just been released called On the Come Up, which is about a young girl who aspires to be a rapper.

Ooo this looks interesting! Thank you I may just pick this one when I can get my hands on it :).

message 274: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (deborahadmire) | 1 comments Elaine, singing is very secondary to the plot, but Bel Canto is one of my favorites, if you haven't read it.

message 275: by Melody (new)

Melody (melodywicket) | 25 comments I'll second Deborah on Bel Canto! It's such a lovely book, and it'd also fit prompt 1. A book becoming a movie in 2019.

message 276: by Milena (new)

Milena (milenas) | 1198 comments Bel Canto is a lovely book, but the character is a professional opera singer from what I remember. Do other characters in the book sing as a hobby? I read it a long time ago.

message 277: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Loucks (yankeesgirl0299) | 11 comments I believe this is going to be my favorite prompt of the year. I picked Geekerella by Ashley Poston for this prompt and I absolutely LOVED that book. It was one of the best books I have ever read. I picked it because i love going to comic con and doing cosplay. Anyone who enjoys comic con needs to read this book. It is such a cute story

message 278: by Cristin (new)

Cristin | 25 comments I read Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art for this prompt. As a long time comic reader and collector, I did not expect to get as much out of this as I did. It was more on the philosophical side than I expected, and I'm glad to have read it.

message 279: by Emily (new)

Emily Giza | 4 comments Melody wrote: "I'll second Deborah on Bel Canto! It's such a lovely book, and it'd also fit prompt 1. A book becoming a movie in 2019."

Loved Bel Canto! I'm excited to hear that a movie is coming out!

message 280: by Shelley (new)

Shelley Pearson (shelleymelissa) Elaine wrote: "Anyone have suggestions for books to do with singing? I'm not big into autobiographies but any other ideas would be welcome!"

Noteworthy is about a teenage girl who passes as a boy to join the boys' a capella group at school.

message 281: by El (new)

El | 196 comments I read Love Among the Bookshelves by Ruskin Bond for this prompt.

message 282: by Jennifer (last edited Feb 13, 2019 09:46AM) (new)

Jennifer T. (jent998) | 231 comments I just finished this by Anne Bogel, creator the Modern Mrs. Darcy blog for the prompt. Great little book about all facets of being a bookworm.
I'd Rather Be Reading The Delights and Dilemmas of the Reading Life by Anne Bogel

message 283: by Selena (new)

Selena Fowler (anelesrelwof) | 3 comments I'm on my phone so unfortunately it seems I can't tag a book. But I was wondering, Stephen King's "Misery" is about a writer, and he is often writing in the book. Could this be considered a book about a hobby? Thanks!

message 284: by Novina (last edited Feb 16, 2019 01:34PM) (new)

Novina | 1 comments Would Fight Club count as a hobby? An unconventional one, maybe. :P I originally read it for Prompt 25: A Debut Novel, but I've since come across another debut novel that I'd like to read, so I was wondering if I could count this for Prompt 8.

Let me know what you think

Thanks! :)

message 285: by Suni (new)

Suni (sunibu) Is listening to music a hobby? So could I choose for this prompt a book with a character who spends a lot of time listening to music, buying vinyls, talking about musicians?

message 286: by Shelley (new)

Shelley Pearson (shelleymelissa) I think listening to music or having a fight club are both hobbies! I agree about Misery that the guy is a professional writer, not a hobby writer, but the lady’s fandom could be called a hobby!

message 287: by Cornerofmadness (new)

Cornerofmadness | 806 comments I read How to Hunt Ghosts: A Practical Guide by Joshua P. Warren because for me and my friends, paranormal investigation is a hobby

message 288: by Jen (new)

Jen | 4 comments Suni wrote: "Is listening to music a hobby? So could I choose for this prompt a book with a character who spends a lot of time listening to music, buying vinyls, talking about musicians?"

I think this totally works. Something like 'High Fidelity', music is absolutely his hobby.

message 289: by Jen (new)

Jen | 4 comments I ended up reading Knitting Yarns: Writers on Knitting for this prompt. Very fun read for knitters and crocheters!

message 290: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 782 comments I am using Accidental Thief for this prompt. It is about playing video games & playing a video game while being in the game.

message 291: by Shananana (new)

Shananana | 2 comments My hobbies are baking and math, so I think I'll finally read How to Bake Pi: An Edible Exploration of the Mathematics of Mathematics for this one.

message 292: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 16 comments I have to read stuff for college and so far I got them figured into the challange... but I was wondering if Writing Empirical Research Reports, 8th (Eighth) Edition, By Bruce, without online code would work for this since I technically do a lot of writing for fun? I could count my essay writing as a hobby (Yes, I am very weird.)

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) | 896 comments Amanda wrote: "I have to read stuff for college and so far I got them figured into the challange... but I was wondering if [book:Writing Empirical Research Reports, 8th (Eighth) Edition, By Bruce, without online ..."

Makes sense to me!

Thanks to this I read The Pros of a Cons! It was delightful.

message 295: by Wifey (new)

Wifey | 21 comments Would Juliet, Naked count? The heroine's partner is an obsessive music fan, which sparks the whole story.

message 296: by Dedra ~ A Book Wanderer (last edited Mar 21, 2019 04:52PM) (new)

Dedra ~ A Book Wanderer (abookwanderer) | 190 comments I just finished The Girl He Used to Know for this prompt and I really enjoyed it! The main characters meet in a chess club at college. It would work great for several other prompts, as well. It's set at a college, it's told from two different POVs, it's published in 2019, and I think it would make a great movie, too. ;)

message 297: by SadieReadsAgain (new)

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 767 comments I read I'd Rather Be Reading: The Delights and Dilemmas of the Reading Life, by Anne Bogel for this. I've been a fan of Anne's podcast What Should I Read Next for a couple of years now, so I was excited to read this. First up, it's a lovely wee book - no annoying dust jacket, just a beautiful cover which feels nice in your hands. And you can judge this book by its cover, because the inside is just as lovely. I enjoyed each of these essays on my favourite hobby, she has such an easy style. It's like a conversation, not a lecture. So much of the reading life she talks about resonated with me. And thanks to this book, I will never overlook the acknowledgements in a book every again! Now I'm going to look up some of her mentions on GR to add to my (also enormous) TBR...

message 298: by Denise (new)

Denise | 10 comments Hi all, I'm wondering if natural history would count as a hobby? Including non-fiction natural history? (With some archaeology..)

If so, I'm hoping that Marie Brennan's series on dragons - A Natural History of Dragons - could be counted!

message 299: by SadieReadsAgain (new)

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 767 comments If it's something you're into (or something anyone is in to) then it's a hobby :)

The "Y" in Forest Lake, Minnesota has this one for the book club read for April and since I have it on my TBR shelf, it will be a must read for me.
