Quite truthfully I was reluctant to read YEAR ONE because I thought it would be another one of those gloomy dystopian stories. Luckily it wasn't too dark and depressing. Yes, it was bleak, sad, dark story and showed how quickly everything can turn into a chaos and ruin. The post-apocalypse world NR created feels real, even too real, but I liked the character and relationship development. It was very well done. The pace was fast, and there's plenty of action. I enjoyed strong women who deal with realities they have to face in changed world.I also liked that it did not end as a cliffhanger, even thought you could tell there's more to come...

Hahaha..this is so cool, Eve! I didn't know about this. Amazing! I'm so excited for Blood And Bone, though I'll probably have to reread Year One in the next couple weeks to refresh my memory. I loved Year One a lot.

You are welcome, Tanvi. Its indeed cool but kinda scary and depressing, too. 2 bil dead within 1 year...yikes! I'm glad its only a fiction and imagination of some author ;)I also look forward for book 2. Not much to wait!

I just finished Year One this morning and I agree with much of what has already been said. It took me a week to get through this epic read. It is so different from anything that Nora Roberts has ever written. I can't say that post-apocalyptic literature is a genre of choice for me. It is dark and depressing. Eve, I agree that I was glad the book didn't end with a cliffhanger. There was a positive note at the end, but you know there is more to come.
Overall, I thought the quality of writing was good and Nora Roberts handled the subject well. She always does a good job with the characters.
