ABANDONED. Children's book I read when I was a kid about a bird and a little girl becoming friends

I read this book when i was about 9yrs old so would have been approx 1997ish. The book as i remember wasnt old like the old style ladybird books it was just a nicely made book and not a short story either. As far as i remember there was a bird on the front cover and i think it was a robin. The book was about a little girl and i remeber it being mainly in her bedroom where the little bird would return to see her on her window sill. I also remember something out the bird going on top of her wardrobe. Sorry i cant remember more but it was a lobely story and has been annoying me for days as to what it was i read as cant seem to find anything remotely similar on google searches or anywhere. Thanks in advance
