My device kept dying after the update. I had to restore it to factory settings and then re-register the device, download books again, etc. Worst update experience I've ever had going back to the original Kindle.

(it was a thrill since I couldn't remember my WiFi password) The Paperwhites only needed to be rebooted.
I really wish we could pass on updates until all the bugs are worked out.
I only go online with my Oasis to download books, otherwise my wireless is off. I checked and my OS is 5.9.7 (not 5.10.1.1, the new version). Is there a way I can forestall the update from auto-downloading so that I may avoid this mess? I don't want to do what you all are describing and my device is working perfectly at the moment.
I can no longer read reviews from my Oasis OR my Paperwhites nor can I find out anything more than the description of the book I'm looking at.
