BOTM Suggestions January 2019 - Bookshelf Catch-Up
I am LOVING the timing changes. They're great for advance planning and efficiency so we can spend more time reading! I Second:
To Kill a Mockingbird
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Memoirs of a Geisha
One Hundred Years of Solitude
Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine (Ignore if it's too soon to reread this.)
Monique wrote: "I notice three of the books nominated are ones we read (not reread) in 2018?"Susan wrote: "I agree, Monique, we may be too soon for Eleanor O & Bell Jar- ? And also Diary of Anne F...."
This kind of concern has been discussed earlier. What happens is that we have a rapidly growing membership. Then, for a number of new members, some of our read books are appealing. New members tend to be more participating, so there may be a majority of them in the Bookshelf Catch-up BOTM choice.
We decided to stick to the most universal of criteria: let members nominate, vote and choose. :-) So, if a significant number of members (old or new) do want to read a certain book, why not?
We just limited recent rereads.
Marcos wrote: "Monique wrote: "I notice three of the books nominated are ones we read (not reread) in 2018?"Oh ok, so no "catch up" reads from last 12 months, but regular/first reads are OK- right? I'm more sleep deprived than usual this month, so I have to make sure!
I counted only Anjanette's seconding of Dune in this thread.Wayne, "Of Mice and Men" is nominated and being seconded on the Classics thread. Please second it there so that everyone can be aware, will you?
I am going to second:Dune
Memoirs of a Geisha
Eleanor Oliphant
And I didn’t see that we had read The Spy Who Came in From the Cold on our bookshelf? Should that be on another thread?
Kerri wrote: "And I didn’t see that we had read The Spy Who Came in From the Cold on our bookshelf? Should that be on another thread?"We haven't read The Spy Who Came In from the Cold! You're right, Kerri!! My fault. I should've noticed it and told Wayne to change the nomination to other thread. Sorry, Wayne.
Since I didn't, I'll consider this a nomination for the Classics Thread and move it there.
By the way, here's an useful tip for everyone, especially new members. If you nominate a book in the last days of the nomination period, it naturally has less chances of getting secondings enough to make it to the top.So, Wayne, The Spy Who Came In from the Cold is a great book and a great suggestion, so you might like to consider nominating it again next month!
