I'm glad everything worked out for him. I spent two whole days in Emergency Rooms last month myself and a good book can help reduce the stress, My phone died the second day so I couldn't listen to an audio book.
I'm giving this a 4.5, and the rating will go up or down based on home much I continue to think about the book in the next few weeks. Sometimes I'll be surprised when I continue to think about the books and get insights from it.

"I liked it. Maybe because mythology always interested me. Although I don't know a lot of it."
That's it." LOL-but sometimes the smallest comments are the best!

Any..." Barbara, I did see the end coming and had it ended any other way I would not have been happy. #teamcirce

Haha! Thanks Joanne.
I finally finished Circe last night and I completely loved the whole thing! I didn't see the ending coming at all. I'm not sure why because it seemed like the obvious and perfect ending once I read it and I'm usually pretty good at figuring out where things are going but it actually took me by surprise for some reason.
Anyway, I think I'm still digesting it all but I'm going to try to get my review written tomorrow. I know I'm cutting it a bit close but that can't be helped.

Glad you got to finish to have it count for points! Hey, life gets in the way sometimes, will look for your review, and I am glad you liked it!

Spoilers for both books, but it's a great comparison. I'd like to read the Barker book, but I need to wait for a time when I feel strong enough for a difficult subject.

So glad you loved it. Even though it was not my favorite book I have loved hearing everyone's thoughts on it. Listening to other perspectives can really broaden my thoughts.

I am reading it right now-so different than Circe, I was having a difficult time getting going with it-half why through and still not certain where I stand with it

It is what I love about our group. While it is still not my favorite I do appreciate Circe far more than I did when I wrote my review. I really do get caught up in others joys with books. I love that there are books that people love, while others may not enjoy them as much. Its okay and really all about the perspective. I have talked to a few recently that really did not like A Man Named Ove. I loved that book so much and those I spoke with really got what I loved about it.

Me too. The main reason I join book clubs is to share with others. I love to hear and see what others are getting from a book. I will read more deeply when I know that I will discuss it with others. That's why I love threads like this (rather than when people simply state if they liked it or not).
I wish I could remember the quote about this idea... A book is not just one book, it is a different book for each reader. We each perceive different things, and we insert our own assumptions and interpretations into the story.
I am noticing now, more than ever before, that my enjoyment of a book depends in part on how it builds on (or changes) my own thoughts and experiences. Hearing other's perceptions enhances the books.

There was something immensely satisfying to me about the ending. I think it's because she took control of her own life journey and destiny. That is something I think we all struggle to achieve at different times in our lives, coming only when older.
