Ibrahim Ahmad Hi
I am a system development student and I am now building an app wich gives the user access to GoodReads book reviews. What I would like to do is to be able to scan barcodes through the phone camera and then get access to the reviews for that specific book.
At the moment I know that you can get the reviews by typing authour, book or ISBN. But is it possible to do that by scanning a barcode?

The main idea for my app is when a user is in a bookstore or library with alot of options. The user may not know what book he/she is looking for and can therefore just scan the books and get reviews from GoodRead, making it easier to choose books.

André (arpnova) The (EAN-13) barcode encodes the ISBN(-13), as far as i know.
(also see ISBN-10 to ISBN-13 conversion)

The official Goodreads app already has a barcode scanner, by the way. Never tried it, tho.

Ibrahim Ahmad Thanks for the reply Andre

I know that Goodreads already have a scanner but my intention is not to publish the app. I just want an app I can show my professor next Friday 😁

I want the app to get nothing else but reviews on the scanned book.
From own experience I've been in bookstores not looking for a specific book but just browsing to see if I find something interesting. Being able to scan the barcode quickly and get straight to a bunch of reviews is something I'd like very much in that situation.
