I tried really hard to like Jane, but just could not make sense of her relationships. It's written not like the the character is uncertain, but almost like the author couldn't remember from book to book.

Gah! I want to read that so bad, but I'm smack-dab in the middle of a Jane-Yellowrock-binge-read. I want to give Charley & co. the attention they deserve, so I'm hoping to catch it later in the year.

How far did you get? I have a bunch of people telling me I have to make it through book 5 before it really picks up.

message 62: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 15 comments I think I bought at least 5, maybe 6. But you know, that's a crazy commitment, to have to read that many books before the author gets her act together. I liked everything about the books except for Jane's romantic relationships - it was almost disorienting. Couldn't keep up or understand who was up. :/

Oh, I totally agree, but the people assuring me are people I usually agree with and I'm getting them from the library...plus I was in a bit of a slump when I started.

I'm told Jane eventually gets her act together romance-wise, too. I can't stand the one she initially chooses. Ugh. So boring.

Sarah | 15 comments I'm in a slump right now - waiting for books from a lot of my favorite authors, and so am re-reading (just finished all of Elizabeth Hunter's books again getting reading for her new one in February). Maybe I need to re-visit Jane. :)

message 76: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneybookmagic) I am currently reading "How to Save an Undead Life" (The Beginner's Guide to Necromancy #1)
by Hailey Edwards.

I am enjoying it so far. It's a new take on Necromancers and their society. In this world, Necromancers are not a rarity but the dominant breed. They have a hierarchy to better control the masses and their creations, Vampires. Edwards has a new take on Vampires as well. I won't spoil anything but if you're tired of the same old and would like a fresh look. pick this book up. You won't regret it.

Barbarian Alien (Ice Planet Barbarians, #2) by Ruby Dixon Barbarian Alien - 4 Star - I enjoyed this book better than the first in the series, some scenes were very erotic but the story was well written and interesting so it did not come off as sex scenes with filler

Now reading Red Knight Falling (Harmony Black, #2) by Craig Schaefer Red Knight Falling

A. Hall (tenover10) | 8 comments Currently reading High Voltage (Fever, #10) by Karen Marie Moning by Karen Marie Moning. My first time through this series and I'm almost done, this is book 10. I dunno what happens after this one. Is it the end? Is there more? KMM hasn't disappointed me yet with her writing(the woman has turned my nose piercing into a leash and leads me around like a puppy, I adore her) and so far this is no exception. I'm loving everything about Dani and her adventure as an adult, and the new challenges she faces are really intriguing.

Also, at the same time A Strange Hymn (The Bargainer, #2) by Laura Thalassa by Laura Thalassa, second in the Bargainer series. This is turning out more erotic as a series than I originally anticipated and VERY heavy on the sweet romance aspect. Normally, that kind of bothers me, with sexual content too early/too present, because a lot of those plots make it a focus, the spoke the wheel spins on rather than genuinely something earned between the characters. Also, sometimes, gushy, flowery romance where the characters are so into each other or all about each other can be irritating. We get it. You love her because her souldamn eyes are blue. *impatient and expectant "move along" gesture*

However, Thalassa is pulling it off. Callie is her own woman and although she loves Des, she resists him, she challenges him, and she stubbornly argues with him. And he fights back...playfully. He's a very interesting male lead and I love the complexity in his personality. They're not controlled by the attraction and despite the romantic focus, Thalassa has fun world building and I'm having fun with her.

Jim | 152 comments Finished Red Knight Falling (Harmony Black, #2) by Craig Schaefer Red Knight Falling - 4 Star - I enjoyed reading, I like the character development from the first book in the series and am anticipating where the overall story will lead

Also read Natural Dual-Mage (Magical Mayhem #3) by K.F. Breene Natural Dual-Mage - 4 star - A nice wrap on the story line. More reminiscent of the first book in the series

How to Save an Undead Life (Beginner's Guide to Necromancy, #1) by Hailey Edwards How to Save an Undead Life - 3 star - A solid story and good set up as the first book in a series, I am interested on how the story line will play out

The Jade Lord (Viridian Gate Online #3) by James A. Hunter The Jade Lord - 4 star - Solid story and consistent characters through the series, was very enjoyable and packed with action

Now reading Redemption Song (Daniel Faust, #2) by Craig Schaefer Redemption Song

message 85: by A. (new)

A. Hall (tenover10) | 8 comments I just finished High Voltage and A Strange Hymn and loved them both(5 stars). Fever wrapped up nicely. Love Dani, love Ryo, and Moning can have me for the rest of my life. Loving the complexity and romance of the Bargainer, Thalassa is quickly becoming a fave.

Currently reading The Emperor of Evening Stars (The Bargainer, #2.5) by Laura Thalassa , the Bargainer series prequel. I dislike the break from the main series but I'm following the order the books go in. I am not opposed at all to learning more about Desmond Flynn. I'm hoping, he's one of those characters, like Barrons, where learning more about him doesn't destroy the allure of his mystery and personality.

Also at the same time, starting a new series, making the most of my KU trial, Priceless (Rylee Adamson #1) by Shannon Mayer . It is...intriguing, so far. It hasn't lost me from the quality of the writing and the main character definitely seems like someone I can enjoy long term(the FBI agent gets his own POV chapter; is he the love interest?).

But....it has the flaw of starting us right in the middle of everything. I don't know...there's something about the way it all is framed and flows that makes it feel like less of an introduction and more like the catch up summary in the beginning of books in a series already in full swing. I'm getting it, at least but the referrals and emotional beats make me feel like I'm missing something, if that makes sense.

Jim | 152 comments Finished Redemption Song (Daniel Faust, #2) by Craig Schaefer Redemption Song - 4 Star, I am enjoying this series, interesting characters and storylines

Read Barbarian Lover (Ice Planet Barbarians, #3) by Ruby Dixon Barbarian Lover - 3 Star, Not as good as the previous book in the series, the titles make this series seem to be a sleazy sex series, but the stories are actually interesting and the characters are not one dimensional

Shadow Play (Black Magic Outlaw, #2) by Domino Finn Shadow Play - 4 star, so far each book is expanding on the overall story and filling in more information on the MC's background without bogging down

Origin of Magic (Dragon's Gift The Protector, #3) by Linsey Hall Origin of Magic - 4 star, this series just seems to keep getting better with more challenging bad guys and the MC's grow with each book

Now reading Glass Predator (Harmony Black, #3) by Craig Schaefer Glass Predator

message 92: by Jim (new)

Jim | 152 comments Finished Glass Predator (Harmony Black, #3) by Craig Schaefer Glass Predator - 4 Star, the action is still intense and the characters are still interesting

Also read When It Falls (The Valens Legacy, #5) by Jan Stryvant When It Falls - 4 star, I am enjoying how the story builds and expands upon what has come before, the story is well paced and the intimate scenes don't interfere with the flow

Regicide (The Completionist Chronicles, #2) by Dakota Krout Regicide - 4 star, I love how the MC is discovering more about the powers and potential he has and the addition of the new party members and some eccentric and interesting characters

Elven Fury (Agents of the Crown #4) by Lindsay Buroker Elven Fury - 4 star, the quirkiness of the characters and the verbal interactions between them add some humor without devolving into a parody, the relationship between Jev and Zenia adds to the overall story of the struggles of the kingdom without taking away from the main plot line

Now reading Laid Bare (Brown Family, #1) by Lauren Dane Laid Bare

message 93: by Jim (new)

Jim | 152 comments Finished Laid Bare (Brown Family, #1) by Lauren Dane Laid Bare - 3 star, the intimate scenes were very hot, but the overall story was a little lacking and sometimes left things unresolved. I see that this is a series of the Brown Family, but this one could be a stand alone

Also read Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires, #1) by Chloe Neill Some Girls Bite - 4 star, I like the MC and the fact that she didn't seek to be a vampire and how she deals with the situation

Now reading Red Riding Hood by Deanna Wadsworth Red Riding Hood

Also read Black Wings (Black Wings, #1) by Christina Henry Black Wings - 4 Star

Now reading Kushiel's Dart (Phèdre's Trilogy, #1) by Jacqueline Carey Kushiel's Dart

message 100: by Jim (new)

Jim | 152 comments Finished Kushiel's Dart (Phèdre's Trilogy, #1) by Jacqueline Carey Kushiel's Dart - 4 star, quite an epic read (900+ pages) it was very engrossing with interesting characters and plot, even being long it kept the pace well and did not drag out scenes unnecessarily

Also read Blood Bound (Unbound, #1) by Rachel Vincent Blood Bound - I gave it 4 stars even though I found the ending disappointing and am undecided if I will continue the series. It has an interesting premise and the character interactions were at time convoluted. The change of perspective from Liv to Cam had a tendency to cause confusion for me since there was no indication whose perspective each chapter was until you were a few sentences into the chapters.

Now reading Ashes, Ashes, They All Fall Dead (Deadly Games, #3) by Lena Diaz Ashes, Ashes, They All Fall Dead
