SOLVED. Childhood Scary Picture Book "I can't tell you what was in that room, but when I came out, I was an old Man." [s]

This was a book from my childhood, so it must have been in print by the 1980s to very early 1990s, but could be older than that,

It was a picture book, probably not too many words. I believe the plot focused around a child going through a scary or haunted house. I remember distinctly the last section of the book where the boy enters the final room and the author remarks that he can't describe what was in that room, but when he came out, he was an old man (and the last picture is of an old, white mustached man at the backdoor of the house. )
