And an ex-wife, and a teenage daughter, and not having children of her own, not just his job. I totally understand why she backed away. She told him exactly why and her reasons were valid, especially given her father and brother.
I understood why she left him. There were quite a few issues that were big ones. I think a major part of it was the job. Seeing what it did to her Dad and brother made it understandable.
I understand her feelings about his job but at the same time she is in the same line of work just not out in the field. I thought the no kids may have been the deal breaker at the time.
While I understood her fears, I’m with Laura on this one. Her job is dangerous, too (not quite as risky). I would have thought she wouldn’t have ever got involved with him. What I didn’t like was her making him think she no longer had feelings for Gage. That was immature.
The book did not go into how they first got together. They were way deep into a relationship and then she pulls the plug. I agree she should not have gotten involved with Gage in the first place.
