Fantasy/paranormal/s-f person bluffing their way through various situations

I am searching for books where the mc repeatedely bluffs their way through the plot, adjusting swiftly to the situation and making things up as they go. If the mc sets up some brilliant plan for the ultimate victory, I prefer for it to go astray at some point;). For example like in: Nine Princes in Amber or The Dragon and the George. EDIT: bonus points for the mc cleverly using/bending the in-universe rules to their advantage.

The Wizard Hunters and the two sequels should work for you. Tremaine bluffs her way through a number of situations over the course of the trilogy. She's also a good fit for adaptability and quick thinking when stuff goes sideways.

And it works for big plans going astray, come to think of it.

A Stainless Steel Rat is Born sci-fi humour. This is the first book in the series, and is about the namesake conman, Slippery Jim diGriz, who is the greatest conman in the universe--except that he's always getting into these oddball situations and having to save the universe, yet again. Really very funny and will keep you giggling.

And, if you want another, try Retief: Envoy to New Worlds, who is an Intergalactic diplomat who is always getting into trouble with his bosses for "saving the day". Again, a fun read. (My personal fav of the books is Retief and the Pangalactic Pageant of Pulchritude
