November 2018 ~ Paula's pick ~ Walk on the Wild Side, Books about MC (Motorcycle Clubs)

The only *rule* for this challenge is that you have to pick a book from your TBR (to be read) file. We want to decrease the size of our back lists, hence the challenge!

Here's to another great month of reading together!

Leslie | 2430 comments *waves to Grey* 🙋 We have missed you.

I am in for this challenge despite me not being into the MC books. I did have this one on my TBR.

Torn Torn (Devil's Wolves, #1) by Carian Cole

message 3: by Michele (new)

Michele (guilliem) | 2131 comments It's been on my list for a while and several of you have tried to nudge me in the right direction. So, I'm going to read... Fearless (Dartmoor, #1) by Lauren Gilley

message 4: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) I've been saying that I'm going to get back into L. Gilley books, so I'm going with The Skeleton King The Skeleton King (Dartmoor, #3) by Lauren Gilley

message 5: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) And I also loved Fearless, Michele!

message 6: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments Where did my darn message go? I'm going to read Torn (Devil's Wolves, #1) by Carian Cole also because it's on my TBR and I'm unoriginal!!!

For my ATF, that was what everyone picked for me, and I'm so glad because it was beyond good.

message 8: by Tessa (last edited Oct 23, 2018 02:37PM) (new)

Tessa | 1761 comments I don't have much in the way of MC books. I have a few freebies, since the last one I bought was Fearless and you all made me read that one. (Thank you for that!) So, I pick One Ride (Hellions Ride, #1) by Chelsea Camaron Wish me luck!

Nay (4ukcats) Lisa wrote: "Where did my darn message go? I'm going to read Torn (Devil's Wolves, #1) by Carian Cole also because it's on my TBR and I'm unoriginal!!!"

Lisa--I just happened to notice something, and I was wondering if I might suggest that you read the first book of probably the best MC series out there (which happens to be on your tbr):

Undeniable Undeniable (Undeniable, #1) by Madeline Sheehan

This is one of the most angsty, throw-your-kindle books out there.

A bunch of us gave it 5 stars, and 6 of us have it on our favorites shelf.

message 10: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments Well who can resist that? Undeniable (Undeniable, #1) by Madeline Sheehan it is!!!

message 11: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments *side eyes Nay for making Lisa switch books so we aren't twinsies now*

message 12: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Lisa--I forgot to mention that you may want to read my review; I give warnings about how crass it is (although those will probably make you want to read it even more! *snort*)

Leslie--Sorry!!! 😭

message 13: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments Leslie wrote: "*side eyes Nay for making Lisa switch books so we aren't twinsies now*"

I shall do both cuz along with being unoriginal, I am a serial people pleaser!!! And borh sound awesome. It's win-win for me!

message 14: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments Oooh, good to know Lisa. So I just need to pout and make puppy dog eyes to get my way with you? Wait... that sounded dirty! You know what I mean.

message 15: by Nay (last edited Oct 24, 2018 07:25AM) (new)

Nay (4ukcats) I may try to read them both too. Why don't we BR Torn?

I've been told I should read Torn several times by several different people, but at that time 1) I hadn't read the awesomeness that is 'No Tomorrow', and 2) I let a DNF review sway me into thinking I didn't want to read it.

BUT it also has one of my fave forbidden aspects, so I think I'll give it a go too. I was just reading the blurb, and it says it's not an MC romance. Huh? I guess the hero is just IN an MC? (which is good enough for me--I'm just curious.)

message 16: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments Nay, I thought same thing as several people say it's MC book. Whatever! If he rides a motorcycle than in my eyes it qualifies for this challenge! Hee hee

message 17: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments And...yes! Let's BR it.

message 18: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Just an observation--I was just reading of the blurb of Tied (the book that comes after Torn), and it's really a shame that the author has been made to feel like she has to give a shitload of warnings (that kind of make me not want to read the book).

Seems like a short trigger warning about the abuse would be enough. I'd rather not be told everything that's NOT in the book.

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments Leslie wrote: "And...yes! Let's BR it."

BR for Torn....yayayay!!!

As long as the h or H don't die at the end, I am good. Hee hee

Grr. I saw that it had a lot of low reviews. :( I just don't have much MC books. I really do prefer mafia over MC. It's the veil of sophistication that hides their evil vs blatant outlaw rebellion.

Anyone recommend a good MC book, or should I figure a work around? lol I have some I said I want to read but didn't actually buy.

THAT! If you can find a book like that one, hell, I'll read it with giddy pleasure. :) And no, not the rest of the series. Three really made me not want to read any more.

message 26: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Oooh, Paula--lucky you! Looks like the one you're missing is Undeserving, Debbie and Preacher's book, which was phenomenal! It may have been my favorite of the series, although since so much time passes between releases, it's hard for me to remember for sure. I know I loved it more than the last 2.

I can't believe it's been over a year since that came out. And now we're waiting (again) for a date for the next one.

message 27: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Tessa--what about continuing with L. Gilley's series? Price of Angels (Dartmoor, #2) by Lauren Gilley was great!

Good idea! I'm going to cheat because I honestly don't have MC books, and you all got me with Fearless and buying that one next month to read. :)

message 32: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Since we're talking about Undeniable, I thought I'd check for me and Ela to see if there's any news about when Undying is coming out.

Guess what, Ela? She posted one week ago that she's still writing it.

That's ok...just read what you can. The book challenge police won't arrest you, I promise!

message 45: by Michele (new)

Michele (guilliem) | 2131 comments I forgot to update ...I finished Fearless (Dartmoor, #1) by Lauren Gilley a few days ago...solid 5 star read for me!

message 46: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments yay! carry on

message 47: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments I finished Torn Torn (All Torn Up, #1) by Carian Cole

BTW, the H is not in a motorcycle club. But he is a biker and runs a bike shop.

I loved the premise of this but it was long and slow. The H was a psuedo uncle to the h growing up and they always had a special bond. When she was 17, they realized they were in love. There were brief flashbacks to h growing up which were sweet but during the whole story, I felt like I was missing something. Like I should know the characters and back stories. I didn't realize this was a spin off. Also, the ending was too rushed.

2.5 **

Jean | 1658 comments Started this challenge today. I'm reading Crux Untamed (Hades Hangmen, #6) by Tillie Cole

Nay (4ukcats) I just realized what my book is going to be for this:

Good Gone Bad by Giana Darling (the h is the daughter of the MC president)
Good Gone Bad (The Fallen Men, #3) by Giana Darling
