Hi all! This post is to let any aspiring writers in the mystery, thriller, or horror genres know about two manuscript contests running now through December 14th on Inkshares.com.
I head up editorial and production at Inkshares, a book publisher and rights-management company in Oakland. We are running our first ever Mystery-Thriller Novel contest, and simultaneously, our second annual Horror Novel contest (modeled after the one we ran last year in partnership with the Horror Writers Association). Both contests are free to enter and partial manuscripts are welcome. We'll be selecting at least three novels at the end of the contest for publishing and rights-representation.
A bit about Inkshares: over the last two years, Inkshares has cemented its position as a marquee publisher in speculative fiction and horror. Just last year, Scott Thomas’ Kill Creek (horror genre) was selected by the American Library Association’s advisory committee as the horror book of the year, shortlisted for the Bram Stoker, termed “the horror debut of 2017” by Barnes & Noble, and is in development for television at Showtime. And this year, we released Christopher Huang’s A Gentleman’s Murder (mystery genre), which received a starred review from Publishers Weekly and is in development for television at Endeavor Content with the former heads of HBO and Showtime—it was also featured in the Washington Post recently. Both novels have been licensed by the major houses in foreign territories alongside significant five-figure advances.
