Woohoo welcome back! It's the opposite for me. Usually my start time is 8am and this time it's 8pm. I took today off from work and slept in, might take a nap later but probably not. I'm hoping I can muscle through the night.
Whew! Got up early, went to the market to get my coffee beans, the supermarket for groceries and snacks, and 2 different libraries to make it home in time for 10am start here in Queensland! Will do a little online stuff and then get into it!
Opening Survey1)What fine part of the world are you reading from today? And what time is it where you are?
Cairns, Queensland, Australia. Readathon runs from 10am Saturday until 10am Sunday
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
The Shadow of the Wind, by Carlos Ruiz Zafón3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
The savoury ones (calzone, sausage rolls, pizza)
4) Do you have a #reversereadathon plan of attack?
Nope. Just do it. I had naps in 4 different hours last time. This time will be harder because of the reverse so I will already have done a lot of reading by the time I have to think about reading through the night
5) Are you doing the readathon solo or with others?
Solo (with the Goodreads group to keep me motivated!)
Emma wrote: "Such gorgeous rain happening here. Perfect for curling up and reading!"Oh that makes me so jealous. Perfect reading weather!
Emma wrote: "Such gorgeous rain happening here. Perfect for curling up and reading!"It's going to thunderstorm today and I'm pretty excited for that. :) Hope the second half goes well for you!
Urrgh.... It's 1am and I am fading! I think I'll use this hour for a shower and some coffee... and an audiobook if there's still time left
Mid-Event SurveyWhat are you reading right now?
The Shadow of the Wind
Dragonfly in Amber
Cybele's Secret (audiobook)
Dragon Keeper (audiobook)
Russka (kindle)
How many books have you read so far?
Read parts of the 5 above
Finished 1 that I have had on the go for ages
What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the read-a-thon?
Finishing 'The Shadow of the Wind'
Have you had many interruptions?
No
How did you deal with those?
Limiting social media to once an hour (or less)
What surprises you most about the read-a-thon so far?
How much harder it is to start at 10am rather than 10pm. I find it easier to get through the night-time hours while I'm fresh.
Closing Survey! How would you assess your reading overall?
I got really absorbed in 'The Shadow of the Wind', so made really good progress when I was reading that in particular, but also enjoyed the freedom of switching to audiobooks at times.
Did you have a stategy, and if so, did you stick to it?
Not really. Just stay awake as much as possible, read/listen as much as possible, and update GR hourly
What was your favorite snack?
Pizza was the perfect dinner, and breakfast smoothie hit the spot...
Wanna volunteer for our next event?

Your dedication to staying awake is like #readathongoals for me! I always start with intentions of staying up more, and then end up still falling asleep for a regular nights sleep. Nice work!!
Great job Emma!I agree abt the start time. Usually I start at 5am, but this time I started at 5 pm and it was much better!

That's a nice wide range Emma. I'll be interested to hear what you think of Picnic at Hanging Rock. And you can't go wrong with a Harry Potter! Enjoy your readathon. :)
Kate wrote: "That's a nice wide range Emma. I'll be interested to hear what you think of Picnic at Hanging Rock. And you can't go wrong with a Harry Potter! Enjoy your readathon. :)"Thanks Kate. I’m expecting to find Picnic at Hanging Rock quote dated, but I recently watched the mini-series so I’m interested to read the original book
Hi Emma. I am interested in whar ypu have to say about The Aging Brain. I exercise my brain here, reading different types of books to force it to work. I am interested to see what suggestions standout for you.
Cynda wrote: "Hi Emma. I am interested in whar ypu have to say about The Aging Brain. I exercise my brain here, reading different types of books to force it to work. Lots of stats and common sense like effects of smoking, drinking, mental health etc
Opening Survey1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
Cairns, Queensland, Australia
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
Continuing (& hopefully finishing) Dragonfly in Amber
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
I'm doing a 24-hour fast this round, so it'll be all about the bone broth and the coffee!
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
Don't read many physical books, I listen to a lot of audiobooks. So RaT is great to get me back into real reading
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
I say it every time - less social media, more reading!

Oh gosh, I don't think I'd be able to fast and read for 24 hours! Not that I've ever tried. lol. Good luck! Yay Outlander!! <3
Fail! I had planned to do a 24-hour fast during this RaT, but I've decided that fasting is much easier when you can sleep for at least some of it!I think I'll find it much easier now with something in my belly!
Definitely sounds like time for coffee! Make it nice and strong!I see you've finished Harry Potter #1. I've just started it for a re-read. Its surprising what things you miss the first time round.
5:00am update: Started at 10pm here, have made it to 5am without falling asleep. 2 coffees so far. Still going...

Wow you made it through the hardest part! At least for me. lol. I thought the reverse readathon would be easier to make it through the night but I just cannot do it. lol. Bravo!!
Kate wrote: "That's a nice wide range Emma. I'll be interested to hear what you think of Picnic at Hanging Rock. And you can't go wrong with a Harry Potter! Enjoy your readathon. :)"Surprisingly I'm really enjoying Picnic at Hanging Rock. I didn't think it would keep me as absorbed as it is.
Glad to hear it. I read it a while ago and got on ok with it although I think I expected more from it.How are you getting on? Have you had a snooze yet or are you ploughing on? It 11pm here and I'm beginning to droop!

No snoozing yet! Just did some gardening with an audiobook to get off the couch. 8am here now
Hi Emma! That's a really big difference in our time zones :) here it's now midnight. Gardening with audiobooks sounds like a really cool thing to do, maybe I'll do some in the morning! I bought a new plant this afternoon and she needs some of my love :) Welcome to Hour 12!
After 11 hours of almost constant reading/listening I gave myself some time this hour for a shower. Feeling a bit better to go on. Ready for the second half!

Many books! Chopping and changing every hour!

Great Job, Emma!! I like your strategy of reading different books and switching the out! And, kudos for gardening and reading!!
Whew! It's getting tough!I slept for 1 hour (hour 15 from noon-1pm). I am debating whether to have one more coffee to get me through the last 4 hours, or if that is too close to bedtime at 10pm when RaT finishes.
Ahhhh.... Readathon problems!
You are working it Emma! I am taking a similar approach of various books. My choice is a variation: A stack up mostly short works. It is becoming one of Dewey's Readathon traditions. Similar idea. It works. Best of Luck.
9pm and we are entering the last hour! I just realised how completely wiped out I feel! One more hour then delicious bed!
Closing Survey! How would you assess your reading overall?
More than I've ever managed before
Did you have a strategy, and if so, did you stick to it?
Not really. Just read, read, read
What was your favorite snack?
All of them! Coffee is what got me through though
Wanna volunteer for our next event?
I think I'm better at reading than leading.
But I hugely appreciate all the work that you guys put in to keeping these readathons running smoothly and having such a great community!
