Guy Vestal - Counter Culture Critic (DaddyRose) Finally a quality sans the quantity YA group...

message 55: by Guy Vestal (new)

Guy Vestal - Counter Culture Critic (DaddyRose) I am already in a big group (Perks) and it is just too impersonal, but I am already there, so why not stay afloat in a sea of people.

You folks ("we" now I guess) seemed to really have the only "family" feel, and for a Father of 8 Daughters, that carries a lot of weight.

These Violent Delights (Robin) | 1236 comments Mod
Thank you so much for the compliment Guy! It means a lot.

Also, everyone, I returned home yesterday from the hospital around 5 pm, so I was there for a good 11 hours. Everything went well, there were a few minor complications. I've also been told that I shouldn't be in as much pain as I am in now, but I'm living lol. I have been taking quite a lot of meds and my brains been fuzzy and heavy. So I'm not sure when I'm going to be as active as I was before.

You're very welcome! I can't wait to see what you think.

message 62: by Nikita (new)

Nikita I have a game idea that I'd like to share. Possible title is who is this character. It's like 20 questions.

example
first person would ask character: are you male or female?
character would answer: female
next person: are you lead or supporting?
character: lead
person: do you have siblings?
character: yes, I have a brother
person: are you good or bad?
character: good
after so many questions or so
person: are you in mortal instruments?
character: yes
person: do you have red hair?
character: yes
person: are you Clary Fray?
character: yes

and the person who guessed, gets to be the next character

What do you think?

Guy Vestal - Counter Culture Critic (DaddyRose) Any game is a good game

Jasna Nickells | 20 comments hi, does anybody use a bookmark? I can't because i keep losing them so i've learnt to remember the page

message 68: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) I do

message 69: by Angela (new)

Angela Dossett (whisperingwillo) | 94 comments @ Jasna: When I read a paperback, I use a book marker. I use to lose mine as well, but I made myself one that would loop itself over the pages, as well as the book itself. It was definitely an improvement. Nowadays, I usually read off my kindle, but I do have an abundance of paperbacks and hardcovers that I will re-read from time to time.

Thats cool. My sisters got me three bookmarks that look like little plants so when they are in a book, they look like they are growing.

message 71: by Angela (new)

Angela Dossett (whisperingwillo) | 94 comments @Jasna: I would love to see those book markers. They sound very impressive. I made mine with velcro, so if book was little/big, it could fit to size. I love butterflies, so I made mine with those on it...

I use magnetic clips as bookmarks sometimes, especially for hardcovers. They are made by Re-marks, Inc. and they are seriously the cutest thing I've ever found. They are made with a sturdy paper, and I bought the ones with owls.

message 73: by Guy Vestal (new)

Guy Vestal - Counter Culture Critic (DaddyRose) I just use rolls of silk ribbon, cut them into 9-12 inch pieces, so they hangout way over the edges. They make good bookmarks, and are hard to lose when so big and obvious.

These Violent Delights (Robin) | 1236 comments Mod
If I'm reading a hardcover, I use the flap of the dust jacket as a book mark. If paper back, I use any piece of paper I can find.

Building Trades, it includes electrical/plumbing/& carpentry.

Though I want to major in electrical because I want to be an electrician.

message 83: by Guy Vestal (new)

Guy Vestal - Counter Culture Critic (DaddyRose) Oh... I thought you were physically trading it for something, like a new car. haahaha ;-)

I'm studying information science and cultural communication

message 88: by Guy Vestal (new)

Guy Vestal - Counter Culture Critic (DaddyRose) Ok, here is something mega-nerdy that will obviously embarrass me, but has anyone an opinion on the new 5th edition of D&D's Player Manual?

message 89: by Paula (new)

Paula (bakerdavies) | 2 comments The Book Thief is one of those horrible great books in the world. The story (with Death as the narrator) is a snapshot of a time in history when so many terrible things were accepted as necessary. The Book Thief

message 90: by Karmen (new)

Karmen | 8 comments I loved the book thief it was a book that kept me entertained and wanting to know what events would lead up to the outcome

message 91: by Jasna (new)

Jasna Nickells | 20 comments never read it. want to though

message 92: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) Yeah it's a great book. It took me some time to get into, but I see why it's an important book. It's definitely worth the time!

message 93: by Jasna (new)

Jasna Nickells | 20 comments The thing is. like with many books I always seem to shy away from it and choose another that I know I like. I find reading books you have already read are like old friends that are happy to see you.

message 94: by Karmen (new)

Karmen | 8 comments Does anyone know any rare books

message 95: by Guy Vestal (new)

Guy Vestal - Counter Culture Critic (DaddyRose) I have to review a book tomorrow, and I suspect the author has huge ethics issues here and at Amazon with questionable "fake" reviews. Half of me says to include the misdeeds of the author as part of the rating, and the other half says to focus on the content alone. It is the difference between 2 and 3 stars, and 1,2, & 5 stars are almost an impossibility for me.

Sacrifice my integrity because it is a struggling first time author that sacrificed theirs out of a lack of confidence in their own work, or maintain my integrity, and be honest, even if I feel guilty as all get out about doing it? I messaged the author and told her what I knew, and how easy it was to find out, but she has yet to answer.

I have roughly 14 hours from now to decide.

I'd say go with the books. I have read some books that I really liked, but I disliked the author due to personal reasons, but I rated the book(s) 4 or 5 stars anyway. You can always just write in your review that you had some trouble deciding on a rating because of xxxxxx, that's what I would do :)

I've been wanting to see her forever, and I'd been trying to get two tickets, but they were in a group of three and it wouldn't allow to leave a single seat. Finally someone bought the single seat, so I jumped on the two. I'm so happy.
