I read The Troop a few years ago and I think I was a little too stressed and all over the place so it was one of those books that I read but my mind was somewhere else. So I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as if I would have read at a different time, I think. I did read The Deep, another Nick Cutter book, this year and liked it. It's also very graphic and becomes a bit overdone and dragged-out at times. It also had a tough animal scene that I entirely skipped.

Tammy | 704 comments I think the way it is worded is "a" favorite author, so I think that could be any author you enjoy and would take a recommendation from, not your absolute favorite. I wouldn't worry, as I don't have any record of picking any winning topics. I'd say you are pretty safe, Chinook.

I'm the same as Chinook and Tammy... any author whose book I've read and liked is a "favorite" author since I never really care about who the author is before I pick up a book. That's why I usually downvote author prompts! I don't really have a favorite and I don't really care what they recommend... I did like this year's debut novel by an author prompt though.

Peter | -28 comments We've had something along the lines of recommended by a favourite author in the past, and the way I got the recommendation was through Goodreads - I looked at authors I like and read their reviews. There are a lot of reviews where they say things like "people should read this book", or "it's amazing and worth reading" or other similar accolades. I considered that a recommendation, so that could work for some people too.
