I remember reading a book that was really great and is still resonating in my brain to this day. I'd love to read it again but I can't remember the title or author. In my head, I thought it was called, "The Art of God," but I can't find anything that matches the description. It was a fictional mystery involving religious artifacts maybe being stolen and/or hidden - possibly because their real meaning was too dangerous for the world to know about. I want to say that it had a red front cover with maybe a statue of Mary on it? I would have read it sometime between 1998 and 2003. Does that sound familiar to anyone else?

The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco? I haven't read it, but someone recommended it to me as a better version of The DaVinci Code and its red with people on it (although, there are a bunch of different covers)The Name of the Rose
Maybe Daughter of God by Lewis Perdue? The cover is red and there is a statue of a woman (not Mary)The author actually sued Dan Brown because his novel was published first, in 2000, and he felt that The Da Vinci Code was too similar. I think it was thrown out...
The book mentioned by Julia is awesome too so I highly recommend it, whether it is the book you're looking for or not.
Oh my goodness! Mai, this is it!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I am totally going to grab a copy of this right now so that I can read it again. I am forever in your debt. Thank you!And thank you, Julia! I have heard of that book but have never read it, so I'm going to load that onto my Kindle as well. My next few weeks are set.
You're welcome! From now on you can say that The Da Vinci Code is similar to Daughter of God instead. It's only fair ;-)
Ha! Yes, I suppose you're right about that. The originals always tend to be better than the remakes ;)
I'm glad you found it :D As soon as I saw Mai's book, I knew it was way more fitting than my rec. And now I have another book for my tbr list!
