I read the book in the late 1990s between 5th and 8th grade.
I remember it had to do with summer, friends, and pizza. I specifically remember that a character put two pieces of pizza on top of each other and ate it that way.

That's all i can remember.

Bolivia took a slice from Rory's box and placed it on top of the slice she was already holding. The tomato and cheese from each slice stuck together and the plain crusts were on the outside. "I'm having a pizza sandwich," she said as she began eating the two slices together.
